Breeding Questions

Since we started the bank I've been noticing people working on stud and broodmare fees, and I'd like to know how people are basing these? I think there's been talk before on this but it was still fairly new at the time. What sorts of price ranges is everyone working with? What things are things that would raise a fee and what might hold it down? I'm just getting into my horses being old enough now to be available for breeding so that's why I'm asking.

Also, a few more questions:

-How many foals do you generally like to bred a stud and a brood for?

-What age do you like to retire horses from breeding?

-Do you like to hoard your own horses foals or do you let others breed a lot?

-What exactly is the difference between a private offer only and a member asking to breed?

-Because of the new fees is everyone still asking for a reserve from the foal that's bred? How are breeding contracts changing or are they?



This is a bit off topic but I've noticed a few horses in the game that have died. How do you go about deciding that, or sometimes I see a foal died, how/why does that happen?

1a. I will retire my studs once they hit age 20. Their last year of stud is at 19. Generally, I let them be bred a maximum of three times per season (if they're new) or once or twice if they're not. If they have, say, five foals in a two year span, they're not likely to stand for a season or two in order to spread the foals out.

1b. I like to breed my mares for five-six foals depending on the mare.

2. Mares retire once they've produced five-six foals. Studs retire at age 20.

3. I do both xD

4. PO is like PMed offer. Member asking could be through a thread or the cbox or something.

5. I don't necessarily ask for a reserve, but I do somewhat expect that the person getting the foal won't shut me down if I want a foal down the line from the horse. If it's a stallion, I definitely expect to not be rejected for breeding rights. If it's a mare, well, that's more understandable because they have fewer foals, but I still think strong consideration/preference go with the territory of breeding a horse for others.

I've only killed off one horse, and that's because she was twenty-something and old. The others are still alive for now. Foolish Entity will be the next to go. She's currently 22.

Do you think a broodmare fee should be higher than a stud's for the average horse because they can only have one for that year? Or would not that sway a pricing decision?

I never thought of brood fees. Hmm. It would be higher if you were charging it, yeah, because they have less foals overall.
