Success for Valkyrie's First- and Second-Year Broodmares
While not every maiden mare can go out and hit it big with their first foals, some mares at Valkyrie are showing incredible potential with their first runners.
The first and most prominent of these is Enchantress, a mare with no notable pedigree or racing record. In fact, Enchantress only raced eight times, snagging only one win and two places from those starts. Her first foal was by a stallion of similar pedigree and race record, though he did run more often. It was Positively Precious' first crop as well, and he proved himself to be a diamond in the rough with a phenomenal first crop. The filly was Aphrodite's Chant, and was considered one of the best juvenile dirt fillies and was a favorite for the Triple Tiara coming into Year 16. Enchantress has continued to prove that this was not a fluke with second foal Miss Magic, by Mr. Hat and Clogs, who was also a second crop stallion. Miss Magic has shown incredible prowess, winning three of six starts all in HOTY fields. In such hard years for young horses, to have two with such success is incredibly impressive. Enchantress currently has a colt at her side by Gallant Knight.
Another 'unblooded' mare showing incredible promise is Castle Siege, a budding foundation mare for the farm. Her first and only foal at the track, Laddie Luck, is by the Karls Nickel stallion Foolish Lad. Laddie Luck has proven a hard-knocker in the juvenile turf ranks, currently without fail finishing in the top three of his races. He won the heavily competitive Wire Finish Cup Juvenile Turf and placed in numerous other HOTY races. Castle Siege has a yearling colt by Cosmic Warfare.
The last of the superstar mares is perhaps the most impressive overall. Flawed Princess was a sensation at the track, and there were high hopes for her first foal, by Gorgeous George, hitting the track. Flawless Majesty has gone above and beyond expectations, winning an incredible six races in seven starts, five of those wins being HOTY fields. There is none of his mother's late-blooming nature in this colt, but he has all of her determination and resilience and will surely be a sensation as the year progresses. She has a yearling filly by Flying Solo that is owned by Battle Brook Stables and a filly at her side by Infinite Warcry.
Mares with their first two-year-olds starting in Y17 for Valkyrie are Feline Frenzy (colt by Royal Assassin), Mizadori (filly by Instant Success owned by Battle Brook Stables), Winged Bandit (filly by Impassioned Wind), and Xalbadora (colt by Catching Fire owned by Malibu Racing).
