Week 1 Muggathugga entered his first race last weekend in the November Maiden. The two year old colt poured his heart out on that track, trying his best to eat up dirt. Unfortunately, we cannot announce the breaking of a maiden quite yet for this homebred colt. Animatia turned to be too strong of a horse causing Muggathugga to place a solid second. We are not letting this dampen our hopes, however. We are already prepping Muggathugga for his next race. Let us hope that when Muggathugga finally breaks his maiden that he comes after Animatia with a vengeance.

Week 2 Recent addition to our stables, Mardi Gras, has been on break since this past summer from racing. There had been plans to retire her to broodmare come the end of Y15, but Kim of KCRS wanted to give her another shot out on the tracks. The mare has a good race record, and this week she proved that she can still contine to add to it. Mardi Gras went up against Ridgecrest in the Grand Silence Stakes and snagged an easy first place. The graceful mare has already been entered into next week's Offing Stakes. If Mardi Gras is able to end the year on a good note, we will continue to race her as a five year old, meaning she plans to retire her to the breeding barn will be put on hold.

Week 3 Mardi Gras obtains G3 status upon winning the Grand Silence Stakes. Although well into her fourth year, and on the verge of entering her fifth, this mare is proving to be a wonderful asset to KCRS. She is a giant among all of our horses, standing 17hh but is probably one of the most gentle and willing. There are still no immediate plans to retire her from racing just yet. Her last race of the year will be the Conferration Stakes during the third week of December.

"She's my personal favorite, one of the first horses I've bought actually." Says Kim, the owner of KCRS. She goes on to further comment that if the mare does well in her last race of the year, she'll continue to race next year. "I don't particularly plan on putting her up against the big boys out there, I don't think she'd hold out in the bigger races. She seems to like where she is now, so I don't plan to move her away from that." Kim goes on to comment.

When asked about whether she had already gotten a stallion in mind for when the mare does retire, she simply shook her head. "Unfortunately, I won't have the pleasure of owning her first foal. An arrangement had been made months before I purchased her to have the first breeding rights given over to another stable owner. I reckon I'd see how that foal fared before choosing." Now that the year was coming to a close, it looked as though KCRS wasn't entering any horses in the last two weeks of the year, we had to ask her why. "We all need a little break, and I, myself, need to plan who's going to race where in January. I've got some yearlings that'll be two come January, namely Key West and Rise Me Gold. They've got excellent bloodlines, but that's only a hint of what they may become in the near future."
