There have been lots of eyes peeking in NDM's empty racing stables recently, except those eager to catch a glimpse of a Thoroughbred were surprisingly not disappointed. Keeping a low profile for year sixteen, NDM is focusing on just a few this season, with the absence of several key staff members due to personal circumstances. Any of those early, predawn risers who poked noses over stall doors were rewarded with some faces, and glimpses of workouts.
Desert Amber ~ This pretty mare was just short of grade one at the end of last season, and she seemed open for another few months of the tracks. Since the season opened she has reached her goal, and has been in the money all four of her starts so far. We're planning to give her a few races here and there, see how she feels out among the higher ranks as a seasoned mare. Isabelle has commented that the mare should be around until June or so, when she will retire or keep going, depending on how her results roll in.
Ivory Storms ~ Like Amber, Ivory was just short of his grade one racing goal at the end of last year. As of now he needs one more win to clinch the coveted honor, and we're pleased with his results, also all in the money thus far. NDM very first horse, Ivory has a special place in our hearts and we are looking forward to giving him a half or full season, we'll let him decide when he's ready to go to stud.
Simba ~ A last minute wildcard that Isabelle got *help* in *acquiring* by a certain Amber Black of SOPS, this lion hearted boy is quite a challenge and interesting experiment for Isabelle. Starting his career at the age of four instead of two, he's has done very well with two firsts and two seconds in the season so far. We will race him just as long as he wants to! Naturally Isabelle fell in love with the wild horse, and is working closely with brand new jockey Evander Thorne to figure out the puzzle that is Simba. And yes, Isabelle has already been caught sketching hopeful foal outcomes of a Dynasty x Simba cross in future years (keep your nose out Miss Amber, Isabelle has enough ideas of her own already to keep herself in trouble).
Justa Little Cutie ~ Started this year by SOPS, Cutie has returned to us for the rest of the season. She broke her maiden in a HOTY race, and just placed second in the Spring Cup at GHF. She has yet to be tested at the 11 and 12 furlong races, but we will see how she goes there. She seems to be freshly back from vacation, eager to keep the turf track at NDM in swing. We hope she doesn't miss a beat, we are excited to see her develop.
Eternally Smoldering ~ BBS took on Smolder to get him started on the tracks for us. Gaining a win, two seconds, and a fourth, we are happy to help him adjust back to NDM and see what he can do for us. Since it's been quiet around NDM, he is stirring things up again. If you hear any strange noises, it's Smolder. His lively activity will start to bring the racing stables alive once more after their hiatus.
Yearlings ~ The NDM yearlings have been out in full force so far this year, but that will end soon. A few more entries for the prospects, and they shall be squirreled away for more ground training and play until the end of the season, when some or all may pop back in for a little more exposure just before they hit the juvenile tracks in year seventeen.
