The Juveniles
Blue Heroine - Now that her maiden is broken and she’s strutted her stuff around the track some, Heroine’s a fresh face to Grayson Meadows. They’ve experienced some pretty wild horses and Blue certainly is close to the top of that list. When she isn’t biting other people or horses, she’s out running her workmates into the ground. Aaron Evertt is through the roof excited about this little filly saying: “I don’t think we’ve trained anything quite like her yet. I’m excited to see what she can do. She’s so intelligent and she’s got amazing tactical speed, the two year old sprinting division this season better look out!”
Ephemeral - The bashful filly is slowly making her way onto the public's radar. Ephemeral broke her maiden earlier this month and is expected to make a showing in the final week of February. “We don’t want to push her too much, she’s shy, she’s quiet, and she’s extremely sensitive. Effie is just taking her time, and we aren’t going to rush her. Personally, I think the more time she’s given the better she’ll be, and if that means she runs through her six or seven year old season, then so be it. She has a lot to give and I’m pretty lucky to have complete control over her” says trainer, exercise rider, and jockey Aaron Evertt.
Incineration - Between Incineration and Blue Heroine Grayson Meadows isn’t very quiet these days. However, Tanner Grayson says he doesn’t regret making the decision to buy the daughter of DW Flamekissed. “She’s a handful, but she’s blazing fast, hence her name” he commented. And he’s certainly correct, she’s won two of her four starts, one of them was a HOTY race. Steve Wilson has been training the young filly and she’s ridden by top jockey Andrew Martin who is best known for his rides on Passion Heart, Take Flight and HOF Tears Of An Angel. Wilson said the filly hasn’t taken her recent losses well, but she’s revved up and rearing to go for her next challenge in March.
Momentarily Herself - The 3/4 sister to red mile legend Supernatural has been running some rather fine races herself. She’s already a HOTY race winner and has never placed worse than second in four starts. “She’s learning. She loves to break from the gate guns blazing and try and wire a field by thirty lengths. Not that it’s a terrible thing, but she could use some more control, and she’s been coming along great.” Trainer Steve Wilson said. “She loves running, and it’s rare to find a horse with as much talent as she has with such raw speed and stamina.” Momentarily herself will be headed to the March Juvenile Dirt Faceoff, March week two at Green Horse Fields.
Royal Charm - The beautiful daugher of Union Jaque isn’t showing much promise at all on the track. In three tries she’s placed in every possible place that she could except first. “It’s a bit frustrating, but she’ll get there. Hopefully it’s nothing like Tell Me A Fable’s 2nd place streak. She needs more time and if we need to break her till next season then so be it.” Trainer Steve Wilson commented. Royal Charm will be running February week four at the wire attempting to break her maiden in her fourth start.
Spirit Of The Angel - This is a filly who has big shoes to fill, she’s the daughter of the versatile blue hen mare Blood Of The Angel, who’s produced three grade one winners already, including a HOF inductee, a sprinter triple tiara near-misser and a Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner. She’s taken to the turf and her natural running ability is already beginning to show. “She gave Dry Your Tears a run for her money a few days ago. We’re excited to see how she’ll develop over time.” Turf Triple Sprinter crown winning trainer Aaron Evertt said. Expect to see her making a late bid in the Stride of Perfection Handicap within the next few days.
Proletariat - Regally bred and talented, Proletariat is every stables dream horse. He’s willing, fast, talented and quirky. Steve Wilson had nothing but good things to say about the half brother of Native Flame, Call Me Crooked, and Ashes to Ashes. “He may have just thrown in a clunker a few weeks ago, but everyone has off days. He’s not finished just yet. He’s a HOTY quality contender and that’s exactly where you will find him this season.” Steve Wilson cautioned.
3yo spotlight
A True Hero - Here is a horse that Grayson Meadows has just had issues connecting with and for that reason they will be offering him up for a lease (or possibly sell him). Hero has had some problems finding other races to run in that he actually stands a chance of winning, and with so many other clashes with other GM horses he needs to go somewhere that someone can focus more on him and run him where he truly needs to be run.
First Class - The half brother of Innocent Passion is expected to be headed for the Green Mile this season. He’s on an unusual track for a regular Grayson Meadows horse but Wilson is confident that this colts affinity for the mile distance will earn him some wins there. He’s been training decently and is expected to make a run against some tough competition at battle stone downs. “He’s a bit behind everyone else and finding races to stick him where he can actually win... well they’ve been rare. But when the Turf Triple Crown starts to pick up everyone should be flocking to those races, hopefully he can snatch a few HOTY wins then. Waiting until the Green Mile series should also give him plenty of time to round into HOTY winning form.”
Excalibur’s Stone - Everyone at Grayson Meadows is ecstatic to have this filly in their training barn. As a matter of fact she’s in her half sister’s old stall. It’s been a rather bumpy road so far but Steve Wilson and Andrew Martin are out every day working their butts off to get this filly ready to possibly make an appearance in the triple tiara. “We don’t want to push her too much, she may not even run till the final leg.” The undeniable talent of this young filly is there, but putting it all together has been the problem as of late. “There aren’t many grade five three year old's shooting for a run in the triple tiara, but she’ll start winning soon. Just wait.” Wilson gave a smile and walked off after that to go work with his two year olds for the morning.
All That Jazz - To be brutally honest the struggles have been real with this filly, but she always does her best and goes out and puts her heart on the line. She never gives up and she fights in every race and it just hasn’t been recognized yet. “We’ve been trying to pick and choose our races with her. We’re pointing to make a red or green mile appearance but we aren’t sure if she’ll be ready for that. Either way we’ll get her set up to have a stellar 4 year old season. She’s bred to win big and she’ll definitely do that.” All that Jazz has made a single start this season and ran second, she’ll be running March week one in an undercard race at green horse fields.
Sugar Demon - This new arrival has settled in well and made rather good friends with Blue Heroine. The two seem to get along splendidly so long as Blue isn’t trying to take a chunk out of Suda. “We’re pretty pleased with how things have been going for her and I think she’ll definitely be one to watch out for. Her options so far are pretty endless, we’re thinking maybe the triple sprinter crown or the triple sprinter tiara. We’re also considering the turf as an option too.” Says Aaron Evertt.
SmashDashing - He’s been a little inconsistent so far, but SmashDashing is still very much a threat to the upper levels of his division. Grayson Meadows doesn’t plan to let up either, they’ve had rather good luck with the TTSC and they’re excited to come back this season for round two. His fourth place finish came as a shock but Tanner Grayson says no one is too worried: “We were all shocked. He came back with a little heat in his left hind leg but he’s been fine. He was just off, nothing that he won’t bounce back from. He’s been training well and we’re expecting he’ll take a few more prep races before he goes to the TTSC.”
Rough Diamond - The daughter of With A Snap has really hit a stride this season. “It’s like a switch flipped and she’s more determined than ever.” Jockey Andrew Martin said, clearly pleased with the filly’s progress. “We’re aiming for a triple sprinter tiara bid, I think she’ll have the most luck there. We have yet to have a horse run in the triple sprinter tiara too, I’m pretty excited.” Tanner Grayson said when asked about the filly’s future plans.
Our senior string
Call Me Crooked - Least to say the Turf Triple Sprinter Crown champion didn’t start off her season winning. Four tries and the fourth time was when she put away her competition to win by a devastating six lengths. “She has us a little worried for awhile, but she’s doing fine and she’s ready to finally get that Breeders’ Cup race win. This season is going to be her season and she’ll be ready to take the lead of the older horse turf sprinting division this season.” Aaron Evertt praised the bay mare.
Chatoyant - This one came out with an unexpected boom. He’s won all three of his starts so far this season, including a classy win over Alucard, Tears No More, and Silent Snap. “Maybe this will be the season that everyone actually gets to see what he’s made of,” Aaron Evertt commented, “we’ve been waiting awhile for him to catch his big break, maybe this is it. He’s been training so well for so long.” Chatoyant is expected to make another start in the next few days where he will again be facing Silent Snap and Alucard.
Dry Your Tears - Two wins from grade one and a HOTY win to top that off. Dry Your Tears made the jump from Grade Four to Grade Two last season and is looking to fill the hole that her older sister HOF Tears Of An Angel left. “She’s got the ability to do it, and she’s more than happy to. I love how willing she is, I have to say we’re all going to really miss her when she goes back home.” Said Evertt, who has been training Tia since she arrived from Nature's Blue Stables.
Daddy’s Overdraft - A barn favorite, Daddy’s Overdraft has entered her final season with two very nice starts including a HOTY win. “It’s pretty hard to believe this is it,” jockey Alex Shade says about one of his favorite mounts. The five year old gray mare is looking to finally make a Breeders’ Cup race appearance in her final season. “That’s our ultimate goal,” trainer Steve Wilson says. “I know it seems like we’ve been talking about her like she’s already retired but we’ve been reminiscing a lot in these past few days. This mare deserves so much more credit than she gets, and we’re hoping this season is when she finally gets it” says Tanner Grayson.
Honorary - Grayson Meadows’ original gutsy filly is back this season, and her recent results have been anything but stellar. “She’s experiencing some more growing. We’ve been looking into it and she may have the rest of the year off if we can get things straightened out some. She may just need some time to be a horse.” Tanner Grayson commented on one of his favorite mares at the farm. She’ll be running in the Spring Cup Grade Three Dirt February week 4, whatever results place there will determine what the next move with the gray mare is.
Blue Heroine - Now that her maiden is broken and she’s strutted her stuff around the track some, Heroine’s a fresh face to Grayson Meadows.
