Earlier this week we got to see Stride Of Perfection's Dubai World Carnival entrants make their final preparations over the sand for the premier event. Here's what we've noticed about each runner going into the races.
Demonic Desires: The Breeders Cup Turf Sprint winner looked to be in supreme command in his four-furlong workout over the sand. Jockey Amber Black was up and the pair looked the same as ever. The newly turned five year old worked forty-five seconds flat without breaking a sweat and without being asked on his way to the Dubai World Sprint. He's certainly in top form and should be one to reckon with over the course of the seven furlong race. Demon has always been known for his dominating speed in his ways, and he promises to deliver each time. We are excited to see how this great black stallion finishes his astounding career. SOPS has high hopes to secure win number thirty for their stallion and to extend his four-race win streak into five before ending his career with a bang. Amber expressed confidence over their chances and is heartily looking forward to the race. Despite the end result, we all know how proud SOPS is of their horse - Amber made that quite clear in the few comments we managed to get out of her following the workout.
Ventura: Some may question the black mare's presence in the Mile instead of the Sprint, but the way this mare covered five furlongs in style should put those doubts to rest. Ven was not originally a sprinter, after all, but a classic distance horse; eight furlongs is actually right in the middle of her distance preferences. The six year old mare has put in astounding performances for her four seasons over the track and is looking to cap off her career with win number forty in this race - a new SOPS barn record if she is to succeed. The powerful mare looked strong over the sand, her potent speed evident even under the control of her rider. She faces two great milers in Call Of The Wild and Spotlight Pride, but none should forget the way this mare ran to victory in the nine-furlong Autumn Dawn Treader Cup when judging her chances for this race, nor her previous victories at the mile distance.
Wish Upon A Star: This much-loved winner of the Breeders Cup Turf Marathon faces down her dirt counterpart Sweet Inferno for what should be an epic marathon race over the sand. If there are any doubts over how the bay mare is handling it, they were erased with the way she worked this week. Wish just glided out there, giving jockey Krystal Yhate no problems. The bay mare looked stupendous as she crossed the wire. Krystal was certainly all smiles. The six year old mare looks to be maintaining her form going into the final race of her career. She worked four furlongs in an unhurried forty seven and change, being asked merely to gallop out to prep.
In The Spotlight & Limited Edition: It's not certain what's going on with the Dubai World Championship yet, but both SOPS horses were seen out working in preparation for the race. Ed was ridden by jockey Valencia Andrews, Innie interestingly enough by a new jockey, Timothy Andrews (who is apparently Valencia's older brother). The two chestnuts worked side by side and looked impressive doing so. In The Spotlight flaunted her usual energy, and Limited Edition his usual antics as he pressured his workmate throughout. It appeared both of them handled the sand well. These two have never had the opportunity to meet in a race, so perhaps both will be entered in the Championship for a match race of sorts. It should be an exciting race to see if In The Spotlight's front-running style can last against Limited Edition's constant pressure for ten furlongs.
