With November coming to an end, there is talk of the Breeder's Cup coming from every corner. The questions are who's going where and what are their shots? Nick Landing has been nonchalant when pressed for information, but we finally managed to sit down with the thirty-five year old trainer and owner to pick his brains about who will be going where. We naturally were eager to inquire first about the coveted BC Classic, a race Landing has been gunning for, for quite some time and was denied last year by Eternal Phantom. We were quick to ask him if Nightshade would be making another attempt and the answer was a definite yes. Landing and his crew have been building this stellar filly the entire year in the hopes that she can redeem herself in the Classic. Considering the other horses in Landing's string, he was more than gracious to give us a sneak peak so far for his entries.

So there you have it! There are still a few up in the air, but all in all, it looks like Intrepid will be making a solid case this year in the Breeder's Cup and we will certainly be cheering them and their horses onto victory.
[break][break]
Besides the excitement that the end of the year brings, it also ushers in the dawn of a new breeding age. As senior horses retire, most go to the breeding shed to begin new careers as parents. Stallion additions are always anticipated and IRS was pleased to share with us just who the new guys on the block will be come Y16. So pay attention and get your mares lined up because there are some here that you're definitely going to want a piece of.

Anodyne made a stunning three year old career and simply continued to climb and build off that in his four year old season. He was an amazing runner, but that isn't all he's got going for him. He simply has that pedigree that breeder's drool for. A sun for the prolific and deceased sire, Augsuto and out of the Djebara dam, Sun Chaser, this is a stallion that has the lines to infuse fresh life and perspective for the very serious breeder. Plus, it doesn't hurt to get your hands on some CTC winner lines.
[break][break]Abastor is a much anticapted addition to the turf ranks for Intrepid. He's performed solidly for five years and actually seemed to hit a new zenith in this, his final season. He wowed the crowds early on in his juvenile season and rode out the other years of Infinite Warcry, Sillenia, Bella Luna and other turf monsters to finally get his spotlight and he performed brilliantly. As a sire, he's the son of Bucephalus (Augusto x Rosalind), twin to BHOF Requiem and out of original mare Mystical Sunrise. For Breeder's looking for serious turf lines, he will definitely need to be on your list.
[break][break]Mainspring will be retiring as well and has been near and dear to IRS' heart since they took in the original sprinter. This bay stallion was proven and fast in the dirt sprints, but excelled on either surface. As a sire, he will be looking to bring some flash blood into the sprinter pool, a much needed relief from the heavy influence from Cryin' Out Loud and the Blood of the Angel lines. He will pair well with either and be that fresh blood needed for the professional breeder.
[break][break]Crimson Fatalis might not be a name everyone knows and that's because he's one of IRS' best kept secrets. The G1 son of Muffin Man and out of Gone Crimson, there isn't a horse alive that has his lines. He retired with 100% consistency, an amazing feat and will be invaluable to IRS' plans to develop more of a miler type horse. Nick Landing couldn't convey in words his excitement to finally have this stallion come to stud. I'd definitely be the one to take note of this flashy chestnut. He will be the one to surprise us all.
[break][break]Samhain is one of two sons of Warlock and it looks like this black bay stallion will be looking to fill his sire's shoes as IRS will be removing the black stallion Warlock from the public pool. We think it's a fair replacement. As a racer, Sammy was consistent with those moments of pure brilliance, but we seem to think his big success is going to come from being a sire and with the pedigree he has...please wipe up your drool.
[break][break]In Front will be retiring to stand stud at IRS. The bay son of Touch Up and BHOF Flight of Fancy will be looking to make his own mark as a distance sire. Nick Landing, who was the original breeder of the stallion, is more than excited to stand another of Witch Creek's top performers. If you're going to be looking for a distance stallion that breaks traditional molds, then he will be your guy.
[break][break]
November has been a hilly month for the black and maroon silks of IRS, but there really can't be any complaining. There were some defeats suffered, but also victories gained.
[break][break]We would simply like to congragulate both Jeff Saunders & Michael Landing for their victories this past week riding Abastor and Nightshade respectively in the World Colt Cup and the Dubai Filly Cup. We will be closely monitoring their progress in this series as the time goes by.
[break][break]Another big congrats to go out to a filly who has long been a bridesmaid, but it seems no more and her name is Restricted Access. She romped to two victories in the month of November. One being the Black Eyed Susan* to prep her for this year's BC Distaff and the other being in the Donn Stakes* in which she beat out the boys too! We are thrilled for both her and Kyle Landing!
[break][break]
SECRET SUCCESS - If you haven't heard too much about this colt, that could be understandable, but you'd be doing you and your racing string a huge undermining disservice. This powerful grey colt is on the rise and he's a hungry scrapper that will eventually be sitting at the table of serious competitors. He's been on a steady climb in the undercard races and Landing seems to be confident that this year has been a vital building block for the Sweet Sugar Cane son. Y16 is looking to be brilliant for him and Landing is certain that given the time, Tera's success won't be such a secret.
