The Youth Challenge was in the midst and Chris Stevens was entered with the Heartless Revenge Colt Avengeable, Gee was nothing compared to Admirals Revenge that didn't mean the colt didn't have a flare to him. Chris patted the long neck of the colt who stood absolutely still with every touch. Avengeable seemed to have a bit of a multi-personality thing going where he was fine one day and the next he could be the largest pain in the behind their ever was. Chris grew tired of people saying the colt would do better in the lower races but in true fact all horses were that way at some point and Chris would show them that this colt would not back down. The black colt was up against a heavy field but he had the attitude to hold them off.
Firestone Racing managed to enter Barely Smokin' a colt to look to with promise, Chris knew this bloodline well as Nature Blues owned two of his siblings. Then Witch Creek entered Uno Momento, a tricky lined colt also sired by Barely a Moment out of El Sol Del Mar, a champion mare. Stride of Perfections entered the True Enough colt Incognito who also had a good reputation, Chris knew this race would prove difficult but he would not fear for Avengeable. Meredith soon joined with The Apathy, a filly by HoF Radiance out of Sweet Points who had just recently retrained for the dirt surfaces and it was working. The half sister to the Grade One mare Reflected in Water was well on her way to following the steps of her sister and marching on to the dirt track of the Red Mile.
The Apathy had a pretty descent record only placing out of the money twice in her career and in this race it was three year olds against three year olds. Comet would be facing the likes of Sun King an accomplished colt for his age, and Silent Snap a sprinter but one to be taken seriously. "Woah Chris, Avengeable is looking good, quite energetic this morning." She said tightening the girth on Comet's saddle. Chris smiled and placed himself comfortably on Gee's saddle who shook his head at the motion. "Thanks, You really trying Apathy for the Mile? Good luck, especially against Sun King I hear that horse is a brutal." Chris spoke as he walked Avengeable along. "Yes I am sure. The Apathy can take the pace hello she goes for the mile." Meredith said with a sarcastic tone as she aided Comet to follow the black colt.
"Hey losers!" Terri said trotting along side them with the War Admiral son The Underdog. "Mind if we join you? Wanted to take him out as he was feeling a bit anxious again. Terri said soon walking the stallion. The Underdog stood 17 hands even making him a monster stallion and while he was still the freshman stud he could be worked out. Chris rolled his eyes and Meredith laughed at the challenge. They all soon headed out with an nice gallop the stretch of their legs was well worth it. Both Avengeable and The Underdog started in the back to hold off the energy they both shared but Avengeable would soon gain speed to catch the other leaders.
They were soon all off in a daring challenge for the wire as The Apathy as short as she was kept her strides at an even pace holding off by her jockey's command. The Underdog hadn't felt the dirt of the track in a long while and with it he was like a young colt racing for the first time again as his tail raised, Danny took off passed Avengeable to match with The Apathy with no problem pounding the ground away as Avengeable caught up within the inside, The Apathy in the middle, and Danny on the outside the Liver Chestnut son of War Admiral began to push the two at a faster pace but soon headed to the front of the pack with remarkable speed, Avengeable latching onto the stallion with open arms. The Apathy soon approached them again near the final turn before the filly took on Avengeable again.
It was no denying the two 3 year olds would catch The Underdog but it was just a workout and within the final stretch Chris asked for more and it was granted with Avengeable taking off to a powerful ending and The Apathy coming in at the close. Meredith was a bit disappointed in the filly's performance but she knew and felt that this filly would spark up in the race and fight for what is hers.
