ADRASTEIA AND MEREDITH MAHON
ARES AND VALENCIA ANDREWS
She was going to reign hell over this track. Valencia Andrews rode atop her God of War and felt the wardrums pumping blood through her veins. Her colt was of a similar mind. Ares had not won since his first race at the odd distance of ten furlongs. The colt never shut down, he just got shut out. One too many hard races and that was it. Valencia was throwing the gauntlet down today. The racing world would learn to fear her horse. But she was not to avoid company on her jaunt around the track. Almost of a similar mind, the beautiful Adrasteia appeared alongside. The filly was bristling with competitive fire and energy and what better horse to pit this against than a wired Ares. Add to it that Valencia was in one saddle and Meredith the other, and you had two peas in a pod riding two crazed thoroughbreds.
The juveniles struck out over the track, and with barely a word Adrasteia took the lead. This was in her nature. But Ares shadowed the filly, never far, never ranging from striking distance. He knew better than to underestimate a stablemate. The pace bordered on wild as they raced through an initial half mile in forty six. The riders were not wont to slow these two down - they were making a statement. They crashed home in one ten and were then taken for a light gallop for the last two. Enough was said. These two were making a comeback in the autumn season and staking a claim for the Breeders Cup in advance. Their resumes would only improve off of this workout.
But perhaps the fastest juvenile had not even hit the track yet. Animatia took her place next in the lineup. The hyperactive filly had yet to start due to her issues on the track. Her sheer aggression had needed to be schooled away. Now, in early July, the filly was starting to do better, but she was still risky to work out alongside others. Amber had slated her for her initial start in November, and that was earlier than planned. It had been just enough to satisfy Henna Turath. She considered her filly the fastest in the crop. She had no races, but she had fractions to prove her worth. Henna showed that now, taking her through a half in forty five that the filly made look easy and finishing off with a twenty three second quarter. Tia had a way of bounding over the track that few could mimic. She was just classy, beyond classy in some aspects. Henna could not wait for race day for this one.
Silent Snap and Impressionable surveyed the dirt as though surveying their kingdom and appeared to ignore the presence of their younger stablemates. These were two horses at varying stages of development. Silent Snap was beginning to come into his own and pose a real challenge to his division leaders. He was becoming brilliant. Impressionable's form had taken a downturn, but she was coming back into it off of a class drop. And now the two went off down the track, side by side, brave to the end and heart showing as they thundered under the wire. Time for the hurricane to descend.
