Track Conditions: Fast/Firm
BAZINGA
This colt just seems to get better and better. His high energy levels and enthusiasm for the track shine through in every training session and we are confident that they will soon begin to reflect in his results at the track. We are currently preparing him for a run in the Wire Finish Cup Juvenile Sprint, something I was uncertain he was ready for but backed up with consistently good works and the urging of his jockey I have decided to go ahead and enter him.
As if to prove his readiness for the race this week, Slick put in a very nice time. His three furlong breeze on the turf brought in a time of :39.00 which is consistent with where he has been until now. His form hasn't slipped, and we are hoping he will prove this at the track on raceday.
CELESTIA
Celeste has broken into grade five nicely and continues to be a joy for everyone who works with her. She is very loving and eager to please which makes training easy and we suspect she will improve quickly as a result. Having broken her maiden, we are now planning to build her profile until she is ready to face the top of her age group. She is entered in the Juvenile Turf Faceoff at Green Horse Fields this week and we think that she has a fair chance to shine.
Her workout this week, over four furlongs on the turf, showed improvement and we hope to see the trend continue. She finished the workout in :52.35 - a very nice time for a juvenile at this stage.
FIRE IT UP
He may not have broken his maiden yet, but we are sure that Comet will not take much longer to take that all important step. His training continues to go well and his little quirks make him a very fun horse to work with. We cannot make it clear enough what a powerful horse we think he is going to mature into - those closing bursts are just getting better and better and in the right field their is no denying that they could be the difference between him and other horses
His workout this week saw him running over four furlongs on the dirt in an impressive time of :48.50 which is a nice improvement over last month. We are hoping to see a win out of him in this week's March Maiden Turf - his first race on the surface.
RUSSIAN AGENT
Baron hasn't made his debut yet as we have been waiting for the right race - he's a bit of an odd one and we do not want to spoil him. He will be making his first start in the near future, and will hopefully shine. His elegance and intelligence has led to him being quite the popular colt in the barn but that is no guarantee of how he will perform on the track.
Baron's workout this week saw him run three furlongs on the dirt as we do not wish to tire him before his debut. He finished the workout in :38.20 and while he has room to improve is certainly not without talent. We believe he will run better in company.
SYLVANITE
Sylv hasn't raced since the beginning of February and is definitely ready to get on the track again. With her energy levels increasing it is clear that she is more than ready to return. The filly will be returning to the dirt in her upcoming race in The Wire Finish Cup Juvenile Dirt against talented competition. We are hoping to see her making a name for herself against some of the top juveniles, something we are sure she is capable.
In her workout this week Sylv ran four furlongs on the dirt. She was the quickest of our juveniles to work this distance, with a clear gap between her and Fire It Up. She really is a talented filly, who runs even better in company, and should perform well if she holds her form on race day.
VINDICATED
With her result last week, it appears that Indi could be slipping back into thirditis - something we definitely want to avoid. Although consistently in the top three she seems to struggle to produce the results we would desire of her on the track and I am considering doing some intensive work with her as a result. She will continue to run in undercard juvenile races in the meantime, and will hopefully start to find her stride.
This week, Vindicated ran a four furlong workout on the dirt in a time of :48.80 - just a little slower than colt Fire It Up. This leads me to question whether we should be searching for filly only races for her.
GIRL TALK
After a close race in the Spring Cup, Lassy is ready to take a win. She has become more determined than ever, and is taking workouts on with the ferocity you might expect from a grade one racer. With her entered in this weeks' Princess Cup we can only hope she will shine on the track as she has been in the stable.
Girl Talk ran four furlongs on the turf in a time of :51.50, showing a little improvement over last month. She is a very strong horse and is clearly getting ready to produce something special. As she did not perform badly as a juvenile we are hoping this signals a return to full form.
MASTER OF TIDES
I expected Tyler to take a race or two to break his maiden, despite having been held back a year - his versatile racing style means that we cannot practice just one thing and his lack of experience could have counted against him. Winning in his debut, however, was a more than welcome surprise and we hope to see continued success from the three year old.
This week he ran a workout over the turf. Four furlongs were finished in :52.15 and there is no doubt that he has more to give as he comes into form. I hope to have a high class racer by the end of the year and will continue to work with him with this goal in mind.
SILVER LINING
Grade four could not be more welcome for this colt, and we are now looking at putting him into some of the sprinter triple crown prep races to see how he performs. As ever, Shaman has a playful edge to him and seems to have not yet fully matured which only suggests that he has it in him to keep improving. Do we have a future sprinting champion on our hands?
As we never like to run our sprinters too far, Shaman was run over three furlongs on the dirt again this week and finished in :36.65. This is a slight improvement over last month, although not by much. We suspect he will improve with further racing and training.
MARDI GRAS
I am thrilled with Mardi Gras' victory in the Spring Cup - a first major win for the filly, and potentially the race which will help her break through on the track after a slower start to her career. I suspect this slower improvement was caused by slow maturing as she has been coming more and more into herself during her time with us. While I do not expect her to be the best of the best at this time I will be working to help her in these improvements.
This week, Elise ran a four furlong workout on the turf in a time of :51.20 - the fastest of our fillies to work at this distance! I am really hopeful for her in the coming weeks.
NATIONAL TREASURE
Treasure seems to be having issues taking that top spot in races and, four starts in, is yet to claim a victory this year. Still, with her results thus far she cannot be very far from taking her first win of the season and I will be looking to enter her in a suitable race to try and get her there.
Due to her struggling, I decided to run her over a slightly longer distance this week - five furlongs on the turf, which she ran in a decent time of 1:04.45. A few more workouts at this distance, and I hope she will handle the track better than she has been. I have also been considering working her in company, in the hopes that this will help her find her stride.
PREDATOR
Breaking into grade one with his second win this season, Pred seems to have found his stride on the track and I intend to keep pushing him. The next step, preferably, would be to start running him in some major races although I don't want to put him against competition that he isn't ready for yet and so this is being taken a race at a time.
Pred does best with long workouts, and so was again ran over a five furlong dirt work. Again, he brought in a time of 1:01.20 - consistent with last month. While we hope to improve on this time, we do not wish to push the stallion too much either and hope that racing will help give him the edge.
Swift Stride Stables
FORTY LOVE DOWN
After her third place run in her maiden stakes under Kayla Spencer, Lottie has been working well and she's slowly beginning to muscle up and mature. She's beginning to pick up the speed in her workouts over the dirt and will soon work over turf slightly more. She has been entered in the March Maiden Dirt over the longer distance of nine furlongs on the dirt surface at Green Horse Fields. It is unsure whether or not she will do well, but if experience plays it's part, it doesn't matter if she settles for second best - she is up against Nature Blue's Excaliburs Stone, and is looking towards next years Sprint Series dependant on how she races during week two. The filly has done nothing but impress the yard staff after they left her a couple of months to mature before starting. She is set for a joint workout over five furlongs on the dirt next week with stallion, Radiation Therapy.
RADIATION THERAPY
Radiation Therapy: Duke is due to make his first start under Kayla Spencer this week in the Okayjee Derby during week two of the Wire. The stallion ran a great workout last week and is all set for his race this week. With a great time under his belt, the son of Radiance looks like he could well become a threat this season if he continues. Will the races prove he has got what it takes? We are sure to find out. Callie will be taking to the saddle next week to ride the mount during a four furlong joint workout alongside Love Forty Down, the two year old filly.
