A True Hero - He may have only raced once in February, but he’s no slouch. Hero’s finding himself quite at home on the track. He seems to rather favor the dirt and given a short break from the races he’s really grown in experience over the past few weeks and has been working handily in company with All That Jazz and occasionally Honorary. He’s been rather flashy all week and we’re all looking forward to his next start in March.
All That Jazz - Much like Hero, Jazzy has been given most of February off, but we warn you to not doubt this fillies running abilities. Jazzy has been sprinting through her workouts with extreme dominance. This filly sets her mind out to improve every time she’s out on the track and it shows. Most recently she flashed her way through a five furlong work that was supposed to be a breeze in 1:01 flat. Least to say she was quite the handful that day.
First Class - Newly G5, he’s out to prove himself. The son of Passionate Class has been rapidly improving and is coming out of a strong 1:03: 2/5 breeze. He’s building up to facing the big leagues later this year and we do plan to send him to some higher class races come march.
Rough Diamond - Beautiful and flighty, Dia also has recently broken her maiden and is looking to take on the big leagues in the upcoming season. “She’s obsessed. She’s always waiting for someone to take her out to the track and she gets this crazed look in her eyes when she sees that racing saddle coming towards her!” Trainer Aaron Evertt commented about the speedy daughter of Silent Snap. “Do I expect huge things from this filly, oh yeah, she ran a formidable work in company of Allouette Divine.”
SmashDashing - He’s intelligent, and he’s makes quite the point for everyone to know that. Only two starts under his belt, Dash has a rather ambitious two year old season planned out. “We wouldn’t race him like we plan to if we didn’t think he could handle it” Aaron Evertt beamed with pride after the grey son of Mister Surprise came off the track with fire in his eyes. Dash has been working like three year old, he’s rather mature for his age and seems to take his works pretty seriously. He most recently put in a four furlong breeze over the turf in
Tell Me A Fable - Small and under the radar, Abe is expected to be a late bloomer. “He’s really small, but it doesn’t seem to hamper him down much at all.” Trainer Steve Wilson commented. He’s a calmer horse than you would normally see around Grayson Meadows, but it’s a nice change from the likes of Passion Heart. Abe has been steadily improving and has a solid three starts under his belt, it’s expected the front running son of Truth Be Told will break his maiden sometime in the near future.
Call Me Crooked - Looking at her performances so far this season, you may think she’s got a bad case of secondits. No fear, she’s been running against older horses in nearly every start this season and we are pleased with her current results. Crook is showing serious class against her older foes and will be picking up a few starts on the trail to the Turf Triple Tiara. Crook most recently worked a powerful four furlongs in 45 2/5 seconds. “She’s back, and she’s an absolute animal, I think this filly can change the racing world forever,” Aaron Evertt described the flighty daughter of Royal Assault who lead the turf sprinting division all season last year. “She won’t easily give up that title, you want to take her on, you’ll have to fight her to the wire to beat her.”
Chatoyant - There is a reason why this quite young fella was named the Y15 Juvenile Upsurper Male of the year. Tayo had a serious rivalry with the likes of Sun King in the middle of last season and it looks like he intends to revive that rivalry. The son of Native Gold just keeps getting better and it’s clear that his time flying under the radar will be over soon. He most recently flew through a five furlong work in 56.20. “He’s gained a lot of weight in these past few months, and he’s incredible to say the least. He’s got muscles in his eyebrows!” Trainer Aaron Evertt laughed when talking about how the leggy, scrawny colt has grown into himself.
Honorary - Newly Grade Four, Honor is looking to move up the ranks fast. She spent the majority of her two year old season under the radar; however, she seems to be on the verge of something big, and by big we mean total blowout domination big. She’s a rather hot filly, and it’s very common to find her yanking on the reins and frothing at the mouth. “She doesn’t like being held back much, but when you do finally cut her lose... I have no idea how Alex even stays on her.” Trainer Steve Wilson expressed this gritty fillies progress and had nothing but good things to say about her previous works over the dirt, most recently, she breezed a quick five furlongs in 58 flat. “I think she about ripped Alex’s arms out of their sockets!” Wilson said regarding Honor’s breeze.
My Kingdom Come - This beautiful gray filly is back and ready to make her next start a winning one. Bey suffered a few set backs leading up to her first start, but we’re confident after some growing that she’s ready to come back better than ever. She’s been working like an animal leading up to her next start, flashing a quick four furlong work in 45 seconds flat. She’s knocking on the door of something big and we warn you not to underestimate this lightly raced filly.
Take Flight - There isn’t much to say here, he flopped in his first two races of the season but he’s found a whole new gear recently. “He’s so focused, determined, he’s literally everything you could ask for in a horse leading up to huge races like this. I definitely don’t want to jinx him here, but he’s definitely not a horse that I would ignore. He’s had a few close calls but it isn’t unknown that he favors those longer 10 to 12 furlong distances, the fact that he’s been able to get his nose down on the wire in a nine furlong race is very impressive. Fly has an incredibly large heart, and I would expect huge things from him going forward from here.” Wilson said about the colt. He most recently was out working in company with Daddy’s Overdraft and the two flashed through a five and a half work over the turf in 1:03.20 which is rather impressive seeing as both tend to run longer distances.
The Apathy - We just switched this filly over to the dirt and we’ve received an incredible result. She just nabbed her first HOTY race win and is nearly G4. “I wouldn’t expect her to pull a huge leap to G1 but she’s definetly a horse to watch leading into the Triple Tiara or if she needs more time, the Red Mile.” Steve Wilson commented on the fillies performance. She steadily breezed a five furlongs in 1:06.30 earlier this week.
Allouette Divine - Divie finally notched that 9th win and is out for that 10th win to make her G2. “She’s had to fight and claw her way through every race to get every win she’s ever had on her record, it was a minor setback, but she seems to have found her stride again.” Aaron Evertt expressed her concerns about the mare earlier in the season, but all have been pushed aside with her most recent win. “It’s a start, and it’s something I can work with.” Divie flew through a four furlong work the other day that Aaron refused to give the time for, “all I have to say is that it was fast, and not just fast, but fast fast.”
Attractive Flight - The half brother of Forbidden To Fly snatched up win number 11 in the Carter Handicap* over a tough field of well accomplished sprinters. “We knew he had it in him, he’s been playing second best for quite awhile now, and we’re hoping this was the click. He’s got an incredible pedigree and his stride is massive, I don’t see why he wouldn’t pull huge upsets this season.”
Daddy’s Overdraft - She's newly G1 and more than willing to step out of the shadows this year. Cobweb has managed to pull some rather large upsets in the past and with how she currently looks, this season looks to be no different. Perhaps it could be her best yet. She's been blasting through her works, and is often held back through the majority of them. "She's been an underdog for awhile now, I think we're all about to see something incredible this season." Trainer Steve Wilson said when asked about the grey mares progress.
Dare To Impress -The Y14 Turf Triple Crown near misser and BC champion looks to be rounding back into top form with some rather impressive works on her tab, of course what else could you expect from the quick closing daughter of Y7 Triple Crown Champion. Imp has been working in company with Daddy's Overdraft and Take Flight handily and the mare looks to keep getting better. "She's getting her head back in the right place, so we're hoping to see something great from her this season." Newly G1 and back with a vengeance, the only question is when you will see this brilliant mare next.
Dreaming Of Glory - Fit as a fiddle and fast as a rocket, its a rather odd surprise that Glory hasn't been moving up the ranks as of late. Never fear, this underdog will get his revenge and get that next win in time. He works in company of four other quarter horses to push him around the track and it may look odd, but it boosts his confidence largely. The late blooming son of Once Upon A Dream looks to be sitting on something big, and its just a matter of time before he cuts himself totally loose.
Dry Your Tears - Talented and impressive, she's managed to notch that 4th win that makes her G4 and the ever improving daughter of Cryin' Out Loud is on fire. If there is a horse that'll make huge leaps in grades this season, this would be your mare. "She took a little more time to develop than her twin brother, but I think we may get to see something even better. It's going to be worth the wait, I promise." Aaron Evertt seemed rather pleased with the chestnut mare's form and looked to be a rather proud trainer.
Passion Heart - The comeback horse had something of a stumble recently. "Just when we were starting to enjoy not being lunged at every time we walked past her stall...." Wilson shook his head with a smirk on his face, "Well, she was pleasant while it lasted, I was starting to enjoy her cocky side. If anything it makes me want to work harder to get her back to that place. She's a interesting mare, she hates losing, hates and she fights you on everything after a loss like this. She's something else, but she does put forth her best effort in everything she does out on the track. She makes it her mission to run her workmates into the ground and put daylight between her and her workmates. It isn't uncommon to see her rattle off five furlong works in 56 seconds flat, it's just how she is." Trainer Steve Wilson said when questioned about the mare, "if you think she's done you couldn't be more wrong. We're dropping her into some undercard races where hopefully she'll get to that 13th win and we can squeeze her into some Horse Of The Year races before summer comes."
Prima Donna - Well she finally did it, the Princess of Grayson Meadows finally broke into G2 status and looks to be in great form. "She just ran the legs off of four other very classy horses in the Spring Cup, you know, that is where Passion Heart started her killer season last year. You never know, we may have just stumbled upon something great here. She's been tripping up here and there all of last season, we're hoping she can find her stride this season." Wilson smiled when asked about the half sister of Call Me Crooked. Prima has been flying over the turf in her last few breezes and is looking to make this season her best.
Speed Rush - The half brother of Mastermind wired a classy field most recently in the Forego Stakes* and alongside that, he launched himself into G2. Speedy is one fast little sucker and he isn't afraid to show it. When given an easy lead, there is no catching this fella. When pushed, he's downright nasty and gritty as they come. He had an easy five furlong breeze in 1:04 flat and is pointing for an undercard race at some point where he can hopefully snatch up a win.
Sweetness Unlimited - She's been having problems getting to the wire quick enough but Ness is still hunting for that next victory and it won't be long before she finally gets it. Ness has been working in company with the Speedy son of HOF Speed Demon, Speed Rush. Ness has been working on quicker closings and she's doing it easily, nosing out her competition with class.
Tears Of An Angel - The Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf Sprint champion is no slacker, she’s been drilling her way through bullet workouts. A few bad outings don't slow this mare down at all, she's been working her tail off leading up to The Wire Finish Cup Sprint. "I would expect her to be a rather looming threat there. She reminds us all a lot of her twin brother, not in terms of personality, but certainly in the way she runs." Lucy has been putting in bullet works all week and is working very strongly as of late.
On an endnote, Livin’ The Dream has foaled her final foal! A beautiful bright bay filly by Flash Limits.
"She's rather flashy and is already racing her mom around the pasture. This was one of the most anticipated foals of the season for us, and she does nothing but live up to our expectations. We've decided to name her Flash and Class."
All That Jazz - Much like Hero, Jazzy has been given most of February off, but we warn you to not doubt this fillies running abilities. Jazzy has been sprinting through her workouts with extreme dominance. This filly sets her mind out to improve every time she’s out on the track and it shows.
