March Report
World Dominion - The chestnut son of Champion turfer mare Alluring Assault put in a solid workout with older companions Night Goddess and Abastor. The colt put in a rallying attempt to hunt down the two older horses and came in behind them at an impressive :40:36 for the final three furlong breeze. Jockey Angelina Voldaire looked quite confident in the colt's growing abilities and had a time keeping the energetic colt maintained. It has to be said that this is no demure son of the more passive Alluring Assault.
Abastor - The black son of Bucephalus put in a stunning performance over the turf and Nick Landing commented he's never looked stronger. The stallion has been prepped for a race since January, but there were no takers. Nick is confident that Abastor will put in quite the show for his races upcoming and is only looking to grow more determined for a win his next outing. He held off a dueling and climbing Night Goddess by two lengths over the three furlong breeze in :38:67.
Night Goddess - It is an exciting season for this daughter of Grand Silence. The once always a bridesmaid filly has finally begun to unsheathe her claws. She had a narrow win in the Unicorn Horn in January, but Nick Landing advises that the five year old filly is only maturing more and more and she displayed that as she went up against Abastor. She showed a stunning closing kick that leaves us impressed. This will be a filly to watch over the turf as she begins to rise in class and power. She has recently shown a new determined side, finally claiming her G1 win. Nick Landing was over the moon to comment on it and advised he has yet to determine the filly's true route for this year in the turf division.
Acantha - She was in fine form and was certainly a handful for her rider Kyle Landing. She was in a rank state of mind after two third places in her outings. She was putting on the speed in a solo workout that left us in amazement. Kyle Landing rode the filly in what was initially to be a simple handy breeze, but she was hard on the hands and took the mile workout in 1:40:01. She has yet to win this year, something that has surprised everyone so far, but her flashing fractions here show us this daughter of Rosalind still has the fire and is looking for revenge.
Flying Fashion - After a dazzling debut, falling just short of a win in the Unicorn Horn Juvenile Turf Sprint, Captain put in an amazing workout with his juvenile partner Sophie's Pride. He showed amazing tact and talent of speed as they tied for home. Nick Landing commented that the colt's turn of foot was something to admire and watch as the season progresses. He wouldn't be surprised to see the colt break his maiden status within the next outing. He is the final maiden juvenile for IRS and the crew here is hopeful.
Sophie's Pride - This grey filly has had a consistent season so far, but looks up the antics here in her February debut over the GHF turf tracks in a juvenile faceoff. She held her own against her partner as Kyle Landing was able to guide her with growing skill and prowess around the track. Her recent experiences is what Nick Landing is hoping to give her an added advantage in her next race. Lyra was looking to take to the tracks with much flair and passion.
Samhain - Sammy was in peak form and condition as he cruised over IRS' outdoor turf track with reputed rider Michael Landing in the saddle. The black stallion was seen to be working in a solo act over the turf and boy was he a sight to behold. This son of Warlock is looking to break his holding pattern on the tracks and with his recent mile workout for conditioning, it looks like Sammy might just do that. Nick Landing advised that he is extremely confident in his abilities and advised the public to watch this black son of Lyrick ascend to new heights.
Daring Vision - There's no doubts about it, the IRS team and Ariel Winslow included are frustrated with Dare who seems to ever be ever the placer, but never the victor. Nick is determined to take a more subtle approach with the Pegasus Wing's son. He's dropping the three year old in class in the hopes that his more than seasoned experience will begin to turn around as wins. His form is stunning and certainly has the class and experience to start moving up in form. The whole team is behind the colt and is eager to see just how he progresses with this new method.
Lissome - This flashy daughter to Comeuppance and Little Miss Innocent has proven she has the mettle to take on the boys. Nick Landing know he has a top three year old turf contender in the classic series, but he wasn't certain if she could handle the boys. Her recent outing in a TTC prep that she came second only to Take Flight. She has been performing superbly over the track, cranking out competitive fractions as Nick steers this filly to take on the turf crown this year.
Stiletto Allure - After a long awaited win, there are high hopes for this bay filly of Cryin' Out Loud and Fashionista. We have it on Landing's word that the filly will soon be making a public workout over the turf. Her times have been reported as blossoming and coming into form. Nick commented that Still still has class, but she is now fully beginning to come into a truer sense of her abilities. We are all eager to see how this maturing turf sprinter rises to the challenges of this year.
Natural Selection - Estella Marino and King are the perfect combination. He put in a solid performance that truly showcased the talents of the blossoming juvenile. This is a colt that is one of those horses that knows his limits and talents, boasting of an early maturity. He worked with confidence and ease over the turf. There are big dreams for this son of Merry Bay King and Wildly Natural. He was seen testing his mettle against older horses and while he didn't win, Nick was more than pleased to see the juvenile keep pace. It was a growing moment for the colt and one that will give him a much needed advantage in the cut-throat juvenile ranks.
Proteus Prince - Ranking right alongside Dare in the seconditis curse, Nick Landing is deciding to take a more patient hand with the Atalanta son. Attie was an instant juvenile success, but it appears that Prince is more so taking after his sire Royal Red Richard developmentally and that means more time. He's been putting in solid works and has Ariel Winslosw hopeful that this colt's next running will be just the turn around he needs.
Barely Legal - Nick Landing is the first to admit that he thought the turn around of Leila would look different than what it does currently. Experience is not the problem for this bay five year old, but getting into the winner's circle is. Brody Graham, the newest jockey for IRS is her rider and has shown the filly how to fight in a race, but it's time to take the fight all the way to the winner's circle. Nick is going to take a more personal approach with the mare for smaller fields. With more intentional planning, Nick is hoping to see the mare bring about a turn around.
