Dragonheart had been quite moody today and Meredith did everything in her power to calm the grey colt down. The Everyday Hero son had the same fiery temper with the thought that he could be in control but their was something about Meredith that Draco found comforting and when seeing her he stopped his nonsense buck of the trailer and walked out with a snort. He was entered in the Jump on it Stakes where he was facing a heavy field of strong four year old's it would give him the experience needed. Draco was no longer a juvenile learning the stakes as they go along in fact now he knew the game quite well and he would give it everything to make sure he took the win for his own glory.
He would face three strong mares like Mardi Gras, Miss Josephine, and White Rose. All mares who definitely left Draco as the odd one out. Kicking the ground as he walked Meredith wouldn't allow such misbehavior and grabbed his halter by the chin and pulled his nose down to her, "Now cut it out Draco you will have your victory soon enough but not with that attitude mister." She said pulling herself onto his back. Dragonheart lifted his head and stood proudly when she sat on his back Draco had grown a little protective of the female jockey along the year and made sure his every step was steady and strong. Meredith pat his shoulder blade trotting him onto the turf track before he danced very little jumping up in down before stopping with the approach of another colt.
Sable Evans had been with Nature Blues for about seven months as a jockey and he was assigned to Firefall, the Catching Fire colt out of Shooting Star. Firefall was a puzzle and as a juvenile he could be unpredictable around anyone. The dark bay colt was still in need of trusting with his jockey but with his attitude thus far, Thunder didn't seem to care who rode him. Thunder ignored the glances from the insulting Draco and before Sable could speak to Meredith Firefall took matters into his own hands taking off with the start of the lead. Firefall was up against stablemate Imitation's Love and Awestruck in the Valentines Day Maiden he was in a harsh decision for such a small field thus far.
Pushing to the lead, Firefall held his stance while Draco started to precede his every move staying on his heels before moving in on the outside staring down his opponent. Dragonheart would be better this season Meredith could feel it, his run was different and he marched heavily on the field that he was not going to give up. Raising his head Dragonheart began to taunt Firefall who started to soon stalk the grey colt as he passed an inch. Draco nipped and bit at Thunder trying to keep him away from bumping into him. As soon as the last turn peaked the corner Draco used his stamina to pick up speed and bolted away from the stalking Firefall and took him on throughout the homestretch and beat the Catching Fire colt by two lengths.
The grey colt was not in the kidding mood snorting and kicking at Firefall Dragonheart was proving in his mind that he was the boss of this track and Firefall had bobbed his head and nipped in return of the response. Meredith pulled Draco away with a nod to her fellow friend and jockey. "Goodluck to the both of you." Meredith said in good sport before Sable smiled and did the same. Both horses were peeked for their race and both headed for the Crown one year or the next.
