APOLLO BEAR && ISABELLE NOTTINGHAM
Bella was hyped up this morning. She had a rather good workout selection thus far, and it kept getting more exciting as the day went on. She had just gotten done working the Turf Triple Crown contender, Black Magic, and was moving on to one of the newest arrivals at OVS. Standing just under seventeen hands and built like a tank, Apollo Bear was the oldest racer in the barn, but by no means the weakest. They had been working together over the winter break and the stallion was starting to show his true colors finally. It had taken a little while to get him settled at a new home, but now he was really coming into his racing stride once again.
Maverick had Olio tacked up by the time she got done working the other black stallion, Olio tossed his head in annoyance at waiting, he just wanted to run. Bella smiled and stroked his silky black pelt, which was almost always flawless. Now she was astride the G2 racer, ready to show the world what they could potentially accomplish. To keep the stallion from wearing himself out too easily, Felicity wanted her to work an easy six furlongs. It was well under Apollo Bear's running capacity, but would also give him a good breeze before his first start of the year.
They warmed up like usual, with a few bucks to begin with. The stallion was feeling good today, his strides nice a smooth without any sign of a hitch. Bella could feel his desire to run and had to hold him back slightly as they approached the homestretch once again. This time, she let him have his head and he sprung out from underneath her, eager to get his groove on. Bella made sure that he was warmed up sufficiently two furlongs in before asking more of the stallion.
Olio took great advantage of his gained freedom and kicked into a new gear. He tore up the turf track, sending clumps of grass flying behind him. One great thing about the stallion was his ability to switch surfaces. He was almost perfectly matched in wins between the dirt and turf. And no matter what surface Bella worked him on, he was just as consistent on one as the other. Apollo Bear had already had a great running life, hitting G2 in his five year old season. Now the team at Oceanic View was hoping to take him onto a G1 racer before retiring this year. They were well within reach, being only two wins away.
Bella was watching the poles flash by in a hurry, and was only vaguely aware of just how fast they were approaching the six furlong pole. Olio had such a smooth gallop, she could easily pass up a mile before realizing it. She pushed for more out of the black stallion a furlong out from the finish and felt him switch leads, finding even more speed as they tore down the track. She had to put much of her weight into the reins in order to get him to slow up, as he just wanted to keep going. He kept tossing his head, telling her no, it was too early, they had to keep going. Laughing, Bella soothed the stallion into a clipped trot before finally getting him down to a walk. He huffed, seemingly mad that they had ended so quickly. Bella patted him on the neck, happy with his performance and positive he would start winning races with his attitude.
