A ROYAL LEGACY Jockeyed by David Monroe
January Week Three
A Royal Legacy was in his final season and he would meet his full potential this season and to join him was the Bucephalus daughter Starfire. StarFire would not be the small filly this time out and taking the turf tracks this year she was needing a fine teacher and A Royal Legacy was the perfect one to do it. Meredith walked out with David by her side as the trainers had the horses saddled and ready. StarFire was by Bucephalus a feisty stallion who was kept off the tracks due to his aggression, she was out of Fly High Silver the dam of Grade One FS Mockingbird and G3 GS Ultimate Challenge. The dark bay filly only had one win to her name and that was a horse of the year race the Seaspray Cup Maiden.
Roy was on the peak of his career even now as a 5 year old the son to a Hall of Fame and Breeding Hall of Famer Merry Bay King out of Queen of Hearts. He was quite proper in the royal sense holding his head high. He was a late bloomer but their was nothing wrong with maturing well with age. He trotted so lightly out of the turf throwing himself forward not regarding his jockey on his back getting ready for his debut into this new season. The stallion pondered whether to take it easy on the filly but Sparx wouldn't take his humor to her regard. The Bucephalus daughter had a vast way of expressing how she felt on the track by being the best of her ability. If she lost a race she would do better the next one, shad had danced onto the tracks with a slow head bob better slowly heading into a slow gallop to ease the way.
However she drawed back to let Roy take the lead saving her energy for the biggest event of her life. StarFire had a rough road headed for her the Triple Tiara would gladly take her service as long as she could get there. A Royal Legacy strided along the way pouting with no competition to guide him he would soon come to pick on the dark bay filly soon gaining up to his speed. Roy demanded a challenge for his own selfish reason and when StarFire began to stalk him the stallion took matters into his own hands and matched her ways with cutting her off in the back stretch searching passed the half way pole with remarkable timing. StarFire had grown irritated at best before dodging his hind quarters and swiftly countering to his side from the outside.
StarFire meant business and no one with her reluctant push would dare anger her. She had a huge competition ahead with stablemate Dancing Fool taking on the turf tracks this season holding Gate one, Summer Romance looked strongly in Gate two with her steady gait, Vetanda came in the third gate proudly as ever that one was a colt by FS Mockingbird would certainly show his colors out there, and then Inferno in Gate four making a comeback after an injury. The Insight Stakes surely had a massive strong field in the making and who can tell who would take the blanket of flowers or the trophy. StarFire was short and she would hold her lengthy strides for the end of the final turn to gain her stamina to beat Roy.
Roy was in keen shape but he was experienced with age and when the proven race was right chosen for him he would take his chance to gain his winning place. He waited for his moment to strike and he did when the homestretch came abroad he took his distances to the level and applied a new gear to his methods and took off passing StarFire for the win by a length. The workout was perfect in Roy's eyes this workout was his for the taking and the race was going to be full of loud cheering and fun surprises.
