She was hot fiery and on point and with a look that could melt a person with just one look. Jeff patted Lilith's toned neck as he led the dirt sprinting empress to the tracks. It had been a near miss with Sun Kin in the Juvenile Sprint, but they had only gained in experience and talent with that near miss. The two weeks of rest had left a very amped and lively filly and quite frankly he was eager to let the filly let some steam off. Kyle patted the toned neck of his own mount. Secret Success had ridden a superb, but under the radar season last year. In that time though the grey colt had gotten a superb foundation and a blossoming confidence. Nick watched in appreciation of the only current active descendant of Second Chance. Other people might now recognize now the importance of this colt because of the legacy he carried within him, but Nick did and he also saw the pure talent. They'd nurtured that talent last season and now it was time to give it room to expand and grow. His race meet of 8F over the dirt was right within his miler range and the competition was classy, but not something that would prove to be overwhelming. It was a prime opportunity to grow and stretch and Kyle was honored to be taking on the colt for his own this year. With Nick's retirement from the saddle it had meant some shifting had to be done and he had been more than elated to take on the Sweet Sugar Cane x Victoria Secret son. They had hit it off smashingly with the training and it was easy to see an easy camaraderie between hose and rider. His interest was clearly sparked as he beheld the competition and the waiting track ahead.
Words couldn't describe how excited she was to be back in the saddle with Sith. The chestnut stallion had come a long way since his beginning years and now that he was back in the black and maroon wraps of Intrepid, it was easy to see he was happy to be back to. He whuffled into her hair affectionately as she led the four year old over to the dirt tracks. His eyes shone bright taking in the waiting filly and colt. His action became more animated as they drew closer, but Angie was quick to ease and channel the colt's growing passion. Nick waited down by the gap, arms crossed as he watched the three thoroughbreds with a keen and trained eye. Jeff got a leg-up, as did the remaining riders as they readied their mounts for the workout. Nick waited as each rider settled and collected themselves. The trio certainly made quite a picture with two flamming chestnuts and a flashing grey. Their coats were all dazzling with care and attention, the grooms obviously showing love for their charges in their pleasing dappled appearances. Intelligence was a common trait for an Intrepid horse and it shown brightly within the eyes of today's workers. To say that Nick was eager to see this trio excel in Y15 would have been a gross understatement. Sith was talent on the cusp of greatness, Tera a fresh new bold face battle-tested and ready to catapult and then Lilith was fiery passion, with a proven background and a driving need to always improve. He could work wonders with this type of raw material. As horses and riders settled briefly, Nick took that moment to advise of the afternoon's workout.
"First off, just wanted to say good job everyone for a great Y14. We made a mark and laid a foundation and now we're going to build upon it. This is an open workout, no specific orders, just gallop them for five and bringing them home quickly in three. This is a toning workout. I want this to only take off excess nervous energy, but leave them more than prepped and ready come race day." jeff grinned and nodded sending Lilith off first. Tera and Kyle were hot on the filly's trail as Sith and Angie settled in alongside the younger grey. It was always liberating to sit astride Lilith. The Speed Demon daughter had proven time and time again that she relished the track life and she was only too eager to get back to the only life she knew and enjoyed. She galloped with purpose and passion as Jeff allowed the filly to take off the edge, but maintained control over the pace with a light touch on the reins. Kyle was quickly growing accustomed to the edgy and competitive horse that was Secret Success. He thrived to be in the middle of things and was proving with each and every outing that he was more than capable of pulling off the curveball. The dirt kicked back into his face from Lilith's hooves, but he wasn't perturbed or dismayed, he relished the challenge. Angie had never felt so at home until she got to sit astride Sith galloping over the dirt. It felt like coming home with the confident stride and blowing wind from Sith's cruising speed. He had never felt so good, so sure of himself and she could tell the difference. The only current son of Muffin Man and Gone Crimson...no one could hold a candle to him and now it was time to put that brilliance on exhibition.
The five furlongs flew and then the drive came. Tera was more than aware of the leading Lilith and the parallel threat that was Crimson Fatalis as Kyle relinquished some hold on the reins. Tera eased up, but Sith wasn't far off as they closed in on Lilith. The chestnut filly bristled, but kept her cool as the others closed in. She'd learned to keep her cool in the final moments and Jeff helped to focus her determined spirit on the drive for home. Three wide they came for home as they leveled off in their drive for home and then with one furlong left, Angie smirked and unleashed Sith eager to see the damage that could be done. He launched forward with power and purpose overtaking the two younger horses by a neck...then a length as Lilith and Tera fought head and head with one another in Sith's wake. Nick hummed in appreciation at this workout, each equine getting exactly what they needed and more than ready to shine their brilliance come race day.
