MIDNIGHT SUN Jockeyed by Terri Lane
Sunny's & Remi's Workout for the DUBAI
JANUARY WEEK TWO
The Dubai was finally here and Reflected in Water was entered as her first race of this year. She was now a four year old a senior to the younglings out there and she would be breezing alongside stablemate Midnight Sun. Reflected in Water was a passionate mare and with her 4th place in the Breeder's Cup Dirt Mile she would try out for the Dubai Sprint. Meredith Hently had the pleasure of riding the Grade Two daughter of the Hall of Fame Inductee Radiance and of Cry Out Chaos to victory with seven horse of the year wins she was one of Meredith's best horses. She was a moody filly who occasionally flirted with the boys it was within her girly nature of the sorts.
Midnight Sun however, was a completely different story a sprinter who could throw everyone for a loop if not careful. The black mare was an aggressive horse who thought herself to be Queen of all horses or those within the paddocks. Terri Lane was her jockey and this would be the last time she would race the stubborn mare as she was to retire after the race. Both horses were not happy to glance at each other with Sunny pinning her ears back and pounding her hooves onto the ground and Remi flickering her tail and biting at her with every chance she could.
Both had been entered into the Dubai World sprint where entered favorite Tears of Blood, Forbidden to Fly, and Aquatic Addiction. Tears of Blood had the looks so far and while Remi was the preceder on the tracks it seemed Sunny was the only front runner in this race and that could mean trouble. The closers were Tears of Blood and Aquatic Addiction which meant Remi would use Forbidden to Fly as her advantage to get towards the lead. Reflected in Water was quite unpredictable with her style but Sunny was a dangerous runner.
The two moved with ease as the gallop pushed to a nice run with Sunny heading immediately into the lead with promise and Terri smiling abroad her back feeling the wind on her covered face from the flying sand. Remi kept her distances on the hind quarters of Sunny keeping on the outside until the back stretch approached where Remi began to hold off the stamina waiting for the right gain, she had the momentum with this race full of sprinters she would however not play them for a fool. Sunny picked up more speed along the final turn head low and strides farther apart she would have a clean break.
That was when Reflected in Water decided to take a chance and with the right commands of her jockey she took off into another gear picking up the stamina to pass Sunny in the home stretch and push forward but both had passed evenly by a nose with Sunny giving it all her best. Reflected in Water had not been easy for the black mare but she was not fooled by Remi's ploy to take vengeance the big results would come race day and both jockey's were excited to see who would outsmart whom.
