SUMMER ROMANCE && CLINTON WARD
BLACK MAGIC && ISABELLE NOTTINGHAM
ADELAIDE && KALLIE SULLIVAN
The three horses were neck and neck coming out of the gate. The pretty bay filly with a star and stripe was charging to the front to take the lead with the black colt hot on her tail. It was going to be a show-down as they leapt into the first of eight furlongs. The workout was going to be a grueling distance, but rather easy for these three year olds who were used to going for much longer. Felicity's orders were to gallop them for five furlongs before giving it their all for the last three. It should keep the horses on their toes enough to be prepared for the upcoming races the first month of the year.
Black Magic, the black colt, had sprung to the front with the absence of a front runner. Bella was confident he would hold the lead for much of the workout before the others really started pushing him. She was there to push him at the end, he needed some stamina training to help outrun the closers in a real race. The bay filly with the star, Summer Romance, was just behind the leader on the rail. Clinton Ward was letting the mare pick her own pace and she was pushing Houdini at a quick clip. Both horses were brand new at Oceanic and today would show the team just how they would run and if they had a future at the stable.
Chasing the leaders was Adelaide, an original from the barn and another hopeful from the three year old crop. She had a less-than-impressive record thus far, but it did not mean she was done racing just yet. The bay filly was sitting a few lengths off of Ro, and seemed to be rather settled in her position. Kallie sat patiently, waiting for the mare to tell her when it was time to go. Addie was good about judging when the best time to move was and watched the other horses quietly.
Before long, five furlongs had passed and now the jockeys told their mounts to start moving. Bella sat quietly aboard Houdini, waiting for the others to catch up as they were bound to do. She wanted the colt to save his energy for the fight that was coming up. Sure enough, Ro started to inch up on the black colt as Clinton urged her to take the lead. She was opening up her strides and eating away the distance left for the run. Not far behind her was Adelaide. The other bay filly was cruising under Kallie, yearning for the lead. Addie closed in on the leaders and it was not long before she was neck and neck, once again, with the other two.
It was an all-out fight for the finish. All three horses were within a length of each other as the mile marker grew closer. Jockeys were pushing them faster and faster, gunning for the first place spot. Summer Romance was the first to emerge, moving down the track like a freight train, with Adelaide right on her heels. Black Magic was unfolding his legs, ready to catch the new leaders. Bella felt his powerful form opening up and tapped him with the crop. The black colt opened up and started taking over the two fillies. Within seconds, they were across the last marker, the three horses still fighting until the end.
