The chestnut filly danced in the yard as Nick collected the filly's bridle and calmed the juvenile with a commanding tug. The momentum tugged Lissy from her maniacal tirade to finally see that everything was finally ready for her to take to the track. It never failed. Lissome was without a doubt her mother's daughter, with her mischievous level rating far above the normal equine, but all it took was for her attention to be turned towards the track and the torrential filly suddenly became a picture of stoic severity. Her nares flared inhaling the scent of her rival as Stiletto Allure and Kyle Landing made their appearance before them. "Can't believe this is your last Breeder's Cup. You sure you want to retire man?" Kyle was observing Nick's easy way with Lissome and had to admire the talent that he possessed to both train and ride. It was because of this man and his grit and determination that Intrepid was even around and he was more than eager to take just one page of success from his book. Nick looked over at Kyle with a glare, "Watch what you say Kyle. That isn't official yet," he stated as he nodded over to the vultures waiting for them just ahead to come over to the tracks. Kyle huffed and rolled his eyes as Still stamped her foreleg impatiently and looked down upon her workout partner, well as much as she could over her taller counterpart...
Lissome coldly studied the light bay, but made no sudden moves, as though Nick's rhythmic stroking hand had lulled her into a trance, but that would have been a poor assumption. She was studying, taking everything in to prepare herself for the task at hand. Nick glanced at his watch, waiting for the final surprise addition to this workout. Angelina rounded around the corner and smiled brilliantly at the two handsome men. She was a midget compared to them, but the small pint knew how to ride and she was beginning to carve out a name for herself. It had been a long time coming this season, but Night Goddess was finally flourishing under her guidance. The black daughter of Grand Silence and Lusica was a formidable sight to behold as she trailed in her jockey's wake. Her eyes held a silent gleam of determination as she moved with an easy grace. Lissome and Stiletto Allure snorted in like to the new threat as they eyed the older mare with suspicion. "Sorry I was running a bit behind Nick, Goddess here seems to have picked up a 'tude...I don't know how that could have happened..." she said with a sarcastic droll and a smirking smile.
"It's a good thing too because her final year is next season and she's going to need that added fire to see her through to that grade one status." Nick quietly observed the four year old and had to admire the filly's resilience and perseverance. She had been shuffled around in her early years, but this year he gotten real foundation work laid and she was poised to become a true blue turf force in Y15, but today they needed the filly's skills to drive this workout home. "Mount up everyone. We got work to do." Kyle grinned in anticipation as he settled aboard his charge as the light bay filly pranced to life beneath him. This was a duo that was hungry for the win, with multiple denials, but retribution was scented on the wind and Still and Kyle had caught the scent to lead them to a hopeful victory in the Breeder's Cup. Her twin was to be making an appearance as well within the same race and that alone was just one of many rivals that Still had on her black list. It was time to collect on the debts that had been struck against them, for they were sharper now and more hungry than anyone to flash to the finish with fanfare and style and Kyle knew they were more than capable of it. If he saw another third place or lower on this filly he might just lose it. They were better than that and had shown it on multiple occasions. He nudged the filly forward as they led the little train to the tracks. Camera snapped and reporters yelled trying to grab the rider's attention, but the trio just smiled and continued on their way. They would let their workout do the talking for them.
Kyle and Still were striding forward with an easy grace as they broke onto the scene. Horses breezed, but Kyle and Still had no problems breaking into the flow seamlessly with Lissome and Night Goddess following suit. Nick called out the instructions as the trio found their gathering momentum and began to cruise. A three furlong gallop with a three furlong breeze, with Night Goddess pushing the juveniles from behind. It wasn't a long workout, just enough to keep the jvuenile contenders on their toes and to give the public a small peek at the developing fillies power. Kyle relished the easy rocking motion of Still's stride, both having a determined air about them as they took up point. Nick was on cloud nine aboard Lissome. The chestnut filly had turned out just as he'd planned all those years ago, but now it was better as reality began to supersede those dreams. She'd claimed her grade three victory and she was hungry for more. She was tuned in to Still's every move as they kept pace alongside on Still's flank.
It was quick and easy fractions as they ticked along in a flash, Lissome was lethal intention and Stiletto was determined speed. Kyle rated Still her mouth hard on the bit, but she conceded to Kyle's hands. Now they just needed to bring their competition to their knees. Angelina and Goddess galloped easy like behind them and she could feel the ease of the pace, but as the Still and Lissome powered up, she felt Goddess' attention prick in anticipation for the moment of freedom to come. Nick could feel the wealth of power within Lissome, there was no denying that she was a filly that could go the distance like her sire and dam before her, but she had the same blood of speed flowing through her veins of the likes of sprinter HOF Axis Mundae and G1 Beltane. Speed was no issue and it was time make the competition aware. Nick eased his touch and Lissome revved up alongside the waiting Stiletto Allure. Kyle glanced over at Nick and the two jockey's smiled, each confident in their mount's abilities as they speed through the first breezing furlong in :15:96, they increased their duel, but another force had entered the fray and she was like a freight train of power. Still's ears flattened at the added threat and threatened to break free of Kyle's hold, but he held her steady as the filly settled back down to course. Lissome perceived the threat logically categorized her options. Nick could feel her mind working and felt her subtle response. She would rise to this imminent threat.
Angelina and Night Goddess were an unstoppable force and it was either rise with the tide or succumb to the pull and go under. She reached and contracted and began to unfurl her fury and the two younger horses had to move or surrender. With one furlong left and Night Goddess leading the way by a length, it was do or die. Stiletto Allure was a light bay flash as she charged with a blitz of speed that left Kyle's laugh swiftly behind him on the wind. Lissome charged and the two fillies had their eyes locked on the black mare, their target sighted. Kyle and Nick sent the fillies after their mark as Angelina relished the growing speed and power of the Goddess. That was what the barn crew was calling the developing and flourishing Grand Silence daughter and Still and Lissome wanted nothing more than to kill the time and their opponent and all in fashion.
The gap closed as the dueling juveniles fought and gained with growing power to catch the the flank of the leading tempest at the finish. Still and Lissome galloped up and past the pulled up Night Goddess with Angie throwing a thumbs up to both Kyle and Nick. The fillies had been too close on the head bob to battle out victor, but Nick wouldn't have cared either way as Ethan motioned to him on the rail a three furlong breeze of :40.09. That was killing time in fashion and more than worthy to take on all comers come race day. He slapped Lissome's neck in praise as she eyed the defiant looking bay. Kyle and Still were pent up passion and fire as he held the filly at bay. They had just been getting started and even he had to admit his impressed nature with Still. She'd led since the start and responded to his promptings despite instigation and she was more than coiled and ready to strike.
