Remi's Workout for the BREEDER'S CUP DIRT MILE*
December was almost over and the Breeder's cup was finally here. Meredith Hently was so hesitant to get this workout underway she was preparing Reflected in Water for her workout for the Breeder's Cup Dirt Mile. She was a feisty filly who still deemed to flirt with the boys as she ran passed them. Her sire Radiance was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame and it was brought to everyone's attention. Reflected in Water was on her way there as well or it hopes to anyway, she was a demanding filly who shared what seemed to be a rivalry with Tears No More or Stride of Perfection's Battle Wings in the feisty show off personality. Meredith was her jockey and the two shared a bond but Remi did not care who her passenger was as long as she could win. GS SuperCharged was another story, he was not one to allow anyone on his back except for one person alone and that was Chris Stevens.
The bay stallion came to Nature Blues at the end of his juvenile career where he then faced his entire 3 year old career battling out the Triple Crowns with promise coming out among the top three. While he didn't win the Canadian Triple Crown he did not back down from the other runners. He shared traits with his sire but with a little help from his dam GS SuperCharged remained a strong competitor putting his aggression aside and use it towards his advantage on the racetrack. Ben would face some of the toughest horses within the Breeder's Cup Classic and his targets were Nightshade, Eternal Phantom, and Red Herring. But he would also have to be careful with Dreaming of Glory in the loop all of his coming up field was going to be tough and Ben thrived for a good race.
When Chris walked Ben out of the trailer to glance at the practice track, Meredith Hently held the reins to Reflected in Water as Ben snared and reared up to the sightings of his stablemate. He pounded at the ground with Remi batting her tail back and forth like nothing was going on. "Easy there Ben, its okay calm down we will go this way." Chris stated pulling the Admiral's Revenge son out of sight of the bay filly. Meredith was nervous at working the two together she was definitely afraid of GS SuperCharged at least his endearing personality. She rubbed Reflected in Water's neck to keep her nerves at bay before latching herself onto the saddle and getting herself adjusted. Mason stood by as did Angela to watch the trained horses do their handy work. "Hey Mere, remember SuperCharged likes to come from behind and sneaky. Keep Remi focused and when Ben makes his move make sure Reflected in Water does what she does best. These two never ran together I just want you to be careful alright especially before the big race." Angela said giving Meredith advice.
The young jockey could only take a deep breath and walked Reflected in Water out onto the dirt surface of the practice track where the two spotted Chris and GS SuperCharged. Meredith did know that Ben liked to come from the outside but she would intervene when the second was right. "Its alright girl you've seen some nasty horses like Ben we got this." Meredith said as she greeted a smile towards Chris. Chris was ready to go as the furious GS SuperCharged was in a mood to get this show on the road. Reflected in Water nipped in his direction glancing into the eyes of the stallion next to her letting the flirting begin. The two started off with a mild approach Remi heading off to a good start while Chris and Ben went immediately to the back letting Remi get all of her energy out before he would strike.
Reflected in Water was a preceder in with that during the back stretch she slowed her pace to allow GS SuperCharged to catch up leading to the outside to confuse the bay stallion, Ben moved swiftly towards the inner with a nasty snare through his nostrils and his ears pinned back he was not going down without a nasty crucial fight to the finish. Remi looked the stallion in the eyes and approached her way with caution as he ran closer to her Remi bit at him only to then ignore his every move there after. The turn finally came around and Reflected in Water began to pry her way out of the glares of Ben and into victory upon the home stretch however, her confidence was joyful and yet GS SuperCharged moved in for the kill galloping away at an even faster pace to shoot passed Remi and passed the practice wire.
Both horses soon came to a walking point but GS SuperCharged demanded his respect and reared at the filly with a promise of some nasty kicks soon after. Chris pulled the bay horse aside and laughed, "Don't worry Meredith this just means Ben's impressed. Keep up the good work on Remi can't wait to see the judges faces when she pulls that special move at the end." Chris said walking Ben off the tracks to cool off. "Thanks Chris I still don't understand how Ben loves you and hates everyone else." The two said before being separated to return to the stables to rest for the race to come.
