Honor seemed to glare at BB as he playfully rolled his bit around in his mouth. He may have not seemed to notice the gesture but Andrew knew better. BB nearly mauled Darla for looking at him in a similar manner not just a week ago.
Alex couldn’t believe the season was nearly over, Honor was nearly a three year old. He couldn’t believe it. He knew he had was riding something that had the ability to pull off major upsets next season, it really was only a matter of time before she started to really strut her stuff. Her scrawny, two-year-old-look was disappearing, and muscle replaced baby fat and she started looking like a serious router. She had muscles in her eyebrows, as Steve said when he described muscular horses at Grayson Meadows. She was definitely a powerful looking filly there was no doubt about that.
BB quickly lashed out at Honor with his teeth and he was quickly met with a Honor’s own teeth. One thing was for sure, this filly wouldn’t put up with anyone else's crap if they dared to giver her some. Her teeth were clamped down on his ear and Andrew squeezed her nose to get her to release BB. Which, with some prodding, she eventually did.
BB then perked his ears and pranced excitedly, which Honor dismissed and pinned her ears at him. Alex laughed, she really was one tough filly and her threats were never empty.
They finished warming up shortly and headed for the gates. Both loaded with little issue, Honor was on the inside of BB, Andrew wanted to see what he could do about BB veering all over the track. The gates burst open and Honor flew out on top, BB followed her a bit quicker than she expected but she put up with him at her throat. The two locked themselves in a battle, BB played with Honor bombarding her with little bursts of speed and then slowing down, which had little to no effect on her, because she let him after she figured out what he was doing the second time he did it to her.
BB was attempting to swerve out Andrew held on tight to his left rein and quickly had him straightened out. He was holding tightly onto his left rein and for a moment he thought he would benefit from blinkers with the left cuff cut a little off so he could see the rail but not the outside rail, perhaps it would straighten him out.
Dirt flew behind them and their hooves continued their dull, thud-ump sound as they finished their run down the back stretch. BB started to test Honor more seriously and he edged ahead of her, and she let him, and Alex couldn’t help but smile, knowing that this ‘race’ was over already. Honor was charged up and ready to spring at a simple command and Andrew and BB wouldn’t know what hit them.
They quickly sped up in the final turn and the stretch came into view and BB and Andrew started their move. They were about a length ahead of Honor when Alex shook the reins, and the grey filly sprung on BB, flying past him as if he was standing still. They definitely didn’t expect the filly to pass them that quickly and Andrew called on BB for more and he delivered, starting to cut into Honor’s lead but not getting there when they hit the wire with the ever-improving filly a head in front of him.
