Training Session with Sable Evans

Chris Stevens was one of the head jockey's at Nature Blues. In a few short years Chris would be the managing jockey after Terri would become a handler and not a jockey. Chris had Ben's reins in one hand and Mira's reins in the other as he walked them out of their stalls with Mira obviously being smaller than her 4 year old half brother. Mira was a fiery little yearling and she needed to walk and roam the stable yard before she would begin her training for next year. Mira had not been to keen with her brother next to her and she tried to pull away but, Chris had the reins tight around his hand and GS SuperCharged nipping at her when given the chance to sign to follow Chris. "Come on you two let's behave." Chris said walking them out into the rocky roadways in between the pastures.

Meeting them was going to be Sable Evans, the newest jockey towards Nature Blues. He tied the reins to the wooden posts to they wouldn't run off and looked to Sable. "Alright Sable as many horses we have whom have bad tempers or are stubborn here Ben and Mira here are actually the worst of them we have. Ben was a tough case when Angela brought him home, he hated everyone. It took me forever to share a bond with Ben and gain his trust. I am also the one going to ride Mira here she too shares her sire's compassion on being an aggressive horse." Chris said patting Mira who moved her frame away from the humans next to her.

Sable looked at Ben who was staring at him and he walked closer to him only for Ben to raise his head as if to say don't touch me. "How do they race if they are aggressive?" Sable asked. Chris smiled and tilted his head to think. "With much patience and hard work, Ben doesn't like people much something he shares with his sire but he has calmed down a bit since I know how he works. Mira comes from Admiral's Revenge as well but she also comes from Dashing in the Firelight a mare who has determination and a fiery attitude. Today you are going to walk Mira around see how she flows." Chris said as he walked over to Ben as the stallion lowered his head towards Chris's approach and Chris rubbed his muzzle gently. "Oh and did I mention Mira seems to only be calm when near Ben. He said then grabbing Ben and walking him away for Sable to deal with Mira on his own.

Admiral's Lady's ears threw back when she couldn't follow Ben and she scratched the rocky road with her hooves. Sable was being tested that in any situation he should be calm and ready. If he got hurt that he would get back up until the situation was handled and then go to the doctors. If Mira would get loose from her reins she would only enter the pasture's where her mother grazed within the grassy plains or run over to her brother's side where she felt safe and secure. "Alright just you and me girl. Everything is going to be just fine trust me okay?" He said grabbing the reins at a distance as he started to try and walk her but, Mira was no budge. "It's okay come on you'll be okay with me." Sable said again walking slower to the filly as she backed up not wanting to move forward.

Chris could only laugh only to wish someone else was here to watch the scene. "Ah Ben only a few years ago that was me with you." Chris said looking to his equine friend. Sable knew a lot about horses but racing them was something completely different at hand. Chris soon walked over to Sable struggling with Mira who also didn't let Chris near her at first. "Sable this training is also all about patience. Give it time my training wasn't easy either." He said grabbing a carrot and giving it to Mira at a distance.

Alex Shade and Daddy's Overdraft

Alex stood in front of his favorite grey mount with a hand on her baby soft muzzle. She was short, but her heart wasn't to be underestimated, Cobweb was just as quick and had a long enough stride to catch up with a 17 hand horse on any given day. Cobweb was a fighter and that was part of what Alex loved so much about the filly. She pressed her whole head against Alex and itched her forehead against his chest.

"Got an itch?" Alex laughed and once the filly finished he straightened out her forelock. 

Cobweb bounced around in her cross ties, unable to stand still for more than just a few seconds before having to move again. This was a bit of a normal routine with Cobweb, but it didn't matter, because her groom Sam still cursed like a sailor because grooming her was an absolute pain. Despite that, Sam still loved Cobweb, but everyone apart of team Grayson Meadows seemed to. Her firecracker, bouncy attitude made even the most bleak person smile. 

Alex found his hand being nibbled on and he couldn't help but smile like the Cheshire Cat. He played with her lips, letting her lip his palm. It was a distraction, and a pretty good one too, Sam finished up with grooming Cobweb and quickly tacked her up just in time for Steve to walk by. 

"She's looking great," he said, "the second place finish in the Proven Strong Stakes seems to have taken nothing out of her."

"You kidding? If anything she has more energy than she did before the Proven Strong Stakes." Sam grumbled, patting the grey on her butt. 

"She's improving," Steve smiled at the filly as she tossed her head and danced around in the cross ties, bored with liping Alex's palm and not getting any treats from it.

"Cobbers is on a roller coaster that only goes up." Alex clipped his helmet with nothing but eagerness in his eyes. "She's gonna win next time out," he stated.

"I have little doubt that she won't." Steve confidently said walking over to the filly and checking her legs out to make sure she didn't have any swelling or hurt herself since her last work. He lifted her right front leg and lifted it, pulling out and stretching it out for her and Cobweb's lip trembled in pleasure. 

"You ready Alex?" Steve asked, and Sam clipped Cobweb's lead rope and unclipped her cross ties. Then Sam lead her away from the cross ties and held her for Alex. 

Alex placed his hands on Cobweb's back and stuck his foot out for Steve to throw him up. Steve heaved Alex up to Cobweb's back and watched as Alex stuffed the whip underneath the crook of his shoulder and arm adjusted everything. 

"If there's anyone out there to pair up with that you think will be good competition for Cobber's go ahead and ask them if you can make a group, I think she'll benefit from it, don't push her too hard," Steve advised Alex.

"Sure thing boss," Alex clicked to Cobweb and the grey obediently walked forward towards The Wire's turf track. Alex ran a hand along her neck and watched Cobweb's ears flick forward with excitement the moment she took a step onto the turf track.

Training Session with Sable Evans

Chris was determined to teach Sable control with the most wild of horses. Sure, this session was a bit on the rough side, it was very much needed. Admiral's Lady was still a yearling she was doing so well in the prospects she was needing some hard training to prepare her for the real races next year. Nakita Rose swore that Mira would never be sold as the same for GS SuperCharged. The bay stallion bobbed his head as if to laugh at Sable for his motives.

"Just relax Sable they can sense and feel the fear in you. I wouldn't put you in a position that you wouldn't handle. I see the way you ride Sable I think your ready for such horses." Chris said in a nice gesture. Mira was also learning the basics of the saddle, luckily for Chris he had gained some trust from the filly he wanted Sable to have that same bond. "It's just difficult for me to anticipate. Aggressive horses make me a little nervous." Sable said looking at Chris with a mild grin. Chris nodded his head and pulled Mira over to Ben where a saddle was placed within both their backs, Ben not caring for the equipment Mira trying to bite off the saddle at hand.

Mira was still young to be ridden fully, Sable would walk her as Chris ride among Ben's back as they walked the trail path of Nature Blues. Chris kept it slow and steady Mira working her skinny legs to get all of her energy out. "I bet riding him out there is a ride." Sable said to make conversation. Chris laughed with simple nods to his head. "Ben is an unpredictable horse he likes to close but no one knows for sure where he will end up. " Chris Stevens was one of the head jockey's at Nature Blues.

Along their path, another being had spooked the horses just a little until Chris calmed them down a bit. Chris could only recognize the jockey and her horse below hand. "So Alex I see they have you working Cobweb out for a bit. What brings you this way? If you don't mind me asking?" Chris said walking Ben closer to the duo to run cobweb on the. Owe with a frustrated glare from GS SuperCharged. Sable could only save gripping Mira with his life. Mira wasn't afraid of anyone and and everything.

"Sorry for spooking your horses. Cobweb could use some friendly competition. I figured someone might be out this way, looks like I wasn't wrong." Alex said as Cobweb danced beneath him and he pulled her around in a full circle. The filly met eyes with Ben and Mira and for a short period of time stood still before dancing around and ducking her head to her chest again. Foam already had started forming around Cobweb's mouth and the shine of sweat was starting to form on her neck. "I hope you don't mind me asking if we could join your group," Alex said, managing to get Cobweb to stand still for just a few seconds.

Training Session with Sable Evans

"No worries Alex, and are you sure cobweb could keep up with Ben here?" Chris said only in a joking manner. It was a nice gesture for someone from a different stable to come keep the company and Chris would not refuse the offer. Ben was a little cranky at this moment as he pinned his ears at the sight of Cobweb. Chris patted his horse to calm him and Sable grabbed a hold of Mira's bridle so she wouldn't slip the rope out from his hands. Admiral's Lady kept her frame close to Ben since her mother was not here to guide her even if she was weaned from her. Sable waved to the jockey on Daddy's Overdraft.

Chris looked to Sable then at Alex, "Sable this is Alex Shade from Grayson Meadows, we have raced a few times on the tracks. Alex this is our newest jockey Sable. I am teaching him the ways of being patient and confident towards our aggressive horses such as Ben and Mira here." Chris said to Alex upon sitting on Ben's back. The stallion snorted through his nostrils as Mira was leaning on her older brother as if no one could notice her. When Alex asked to join their group, Chris didn't see why Alex couldn't. Chris then turned Ben to face the forest and smiled. "We can go for a little run through the forest Sable can hop on Ben here and I could pull Mira. A nice breeze would do these horses some good." Chris suggested as Ben was bobbing his head in different directions getting ready to pull forward. Sable looked at everything going on in front of him and sighed to the thought.

"Nice to meet you Sable," Alex nodded to him,"and a breeze sounds great to me."

Cobweb tossed her head and stuck her tongue out, totally disregarding Ben pinning his ears. The grey continued to bounce around and bob her head, always needing to find something to do with herself because of her two second attention span. Alex turned her in a sharp full circle to her left and managed to get her to stand still for about ten seconds, but that didn't stop her from retracting her tongue and starting to play with her bit, causing some foam to begin to form.

"Oh! and congratulations on finally getting GS SuperCharged to grade one!" Alex added as he walked Cobweb forward a few steps to keep the filly distracted while she still played with her  bit but she was still eyeing her other equines. Sizing them up you could say.
