The Dynamic Trio
White Rose and Jessie CoppermenPassion Heart and Andrew Martin
Immortal Flight and Alex Shade
The three jockey's trotted their horses out onto The Wire's Turf Track in the wryly morning sunrise. They were all just silhouettes from a distance. The sight was beautiful, dew shined off of every surface like the stars shine at night.
One of the bays, the larger of the two, turned his head. He was running his cool calculating eyes over the track. Deep brown orbs reflected the bright colors of orange, yellow and pink creating the reflection of the sunrise.
Immortal Flight was the name of the stallion. On the verge of becoming G2 the colt was finally starting to pick up his pace this season. He had gone winless until his last two starts, were he won both. Nico was a but streaky with his aims, and his previous record. Steve was hoping that his streak would stay for long enough to get the 4 year old bay stallion to reach G1.
Nico's next start was the seashell cup grade three, a horse of the year race, this one wouldn't be a piece of cake like his last starts had been. With four other entries, including his stablemate Van Guard. Dirty Diana, Top Admiral, and Jazzaway were all top caliber horses and Nico would have his work cut out for him. In this race, Nico and Andrew would have to run smart. Jazzaway and Top Admiral would probably be duking it out for the lead, while Van Guard would be stalking and Dirty Diana would be sitting a ways back, waiting for her time to strike. It was decided it would be best to run Nico off of Van Guard, that way he would be far enough away from the pace to take off down the stretch and still hold off everyone else.
He was working over the turf because it would help build up his endurance, hopefully it would help him in the long run to win.
The coal black mare tossed her head and stomped her hoof in frustration, giving small bucks the whole way. To say she was cranky would be an understatement. Passion Heart was the mare, at four years old she had finally started making a name for herself. She was a late bloomer, there was no doubt about that. Ally was going to have to run the race of her life to win the sunshine millions filly and mare turf against Cross My Heart. The race was a pretty much a total loss even before it was ran. They were both front runner and this was looking to be more of a match race than a regular HOTY race. However large the grade gap was between the two of them, and how much more achieved Cross My Heart was, it was all going to come down to who had more guts. That was what would be the determining factor at the end of it all. Ally had something to prove, and if she won this, she may just go down as one of the all time greats, but it was a long shot, but we've all seen weirder things happen.
Ally continued to toss her head and stomp in frustration. In other words, she was being the irritable brat that she usually was.
The other bay was also large, but noticeably laid back as well. She did dance around a little, but that wasn't uncommon for any thoroughbred. White Rose was picking herself up again, Grayson meadows just hoped she wouldn't let herself fall back down again.
Roses next start would come against her stablemate, Prima Donna. There wasn't going to be any pace in the sweet belle stakes, Prima had stalking tendencies and arose had preceding tendencies. So with that in mind, Rose would probably go to the lead and set a slow pace with Prima at her withers. The race really was open, either horse could take it. Hadley would be all out pushing Prima so she could get her next win and become G3 and hopefully start getting back into old form again.
The horses all loaded into the gates without an issue. The gates fired open and the Trio pushed off of their powerful hind legs, and after six strides they were at top speed. Head in head, stride in stride the dynamic trio jogged easily in each others company. Ally had her nose in front of Nico and Nico had half his head in front of Rose. They all weren't going to let up so Ally kept getting pushed to go faster by Nico and Rose did the same. Before anyone else knew it they where rounding the final turn and Rose started her move to come into second place on the outside of Ally. Alex sat on Nico waiting for the right time to push the colt down to the wire and call on him for everything he had. Ally pinned her ears but still held herself back, she knew just as well as Andrew that this was not the right time to move.
The homestretch opened up for them and they all came dashing down it, Nico came charging at Rose who was charging at Ally. Ally refused to give up that lead. The coal black mare was opening up on her workmates, making it look easy.
Nico and Rose battled head in head for second because there was no catching Ally as she sprinted past the wire three lengths ahead of them. Nico dug in and crossed the wire with his nose in front of Roses.
There was no doubt about it, they were all ready for their next races, and would give it everything they had.
