Ben's Workout for the Gaining Momentum Derby July Wk1
Meta's workout for the Upgrading Derby July Wk1
It was a fast month that was going by and with the Triple Crown nearly over, Chris Stevens could work Ben outside of the furious press and the hard workers to get their horses all prepped up for the Crown. Luckily, Ben was considered a senior racer having the chance last year only showing and placing in the Canadian Triple Crown. The bay stallion was one win away from ranking up to the top of his game and working with him would be My Remedy ridden by Meredith Hently. The female jockey had ridden Reflected in Water during the Tiara and the two were excellent and with their most recent win of the Dr Fager Red Mile their was not stopping them. She would show her same obligations to the colt and pray for the best.
Both jockey's were not going to let Ben or Meta speed off into the sunset no, they would take their marvelous time as both preferred to be closers and remain in the back of the pack. Ben was up against high performance horses ones with experience such as himself. Indian Darling was his eye with this one along with Predator. Silver Secret was quite unpredictable but Ben would be far more interested in the other two. Meta however, was in a lesser race with his own class of G5 racers. Whispering Melody was a horse to look out for but, Fleet Street seemed to show off devious and caniving track ways that Meta would need to watch for. The colt was shy at first when approaching GS SuperCharged but, he did not seem to be the bother of Ben. Both horses were eye to eye when they finally started and they would be throughout the workout.
Both horses dropped to the back leaving Ben only a nose away from Meta who still needed to focus on pushing and less blocking. Both bay horses jammed over the dirt listening to their jockey's commands when Ben finally took matters into his own hooves and pushed his pace a little faster to get fully ahead of Meta. My Remedy was a silent monster keeping himself calm and quiet always had him lost within the pack but here, it was just him and Ben. Meta used a technique of watch and learn before he copied the movements of his fellow companion. Meredith was very light on his back leaving less weight for the colt to push himself at a faster pace than before.
"Come on Meta let's go boy!" Meredith shouted keeping him at least a foot away from touching the side of Ben. Chris knew absolutely everything about Ben, his tired days, his moody days, the two were like brothers but of a different species. His yearling sister Admiral's Lady is approaching high status with her third win in the prospect season. Chris was assigned her as well only thinking that it was because of his understandings of an Admiral's Revenge foal just by Ben. Ben had settled down quite a bit as he aged but he did know how to keep his old spirits alive.
Passing the half mile marker, the two came to a slow with the morning sun already hitting their eyes like burning rubber up close. Keeping the horses happy and healthy to their standards was a great option. Nature Blue's is a large stable and soon they would imply a sale that would give younger newer stables some good lines. Meta still needed work but today his training and improvements were splendid against Ben. With both colts into two separate stalls the jockeys removed the saddles from their backs and sent off with their handlers so they would be well fed and prepared for their each individual races.
