SECRET'S SURPRISE Jockeyed by Terri Lane
Goldikova Stakes // March Wk 1 Workout
Terri Lane hadn't ran a horse in awhile, she had needed a small vacation and that was what she got. The jockey had been reunited with Ursa who was looking wonderfully great. She had placed at the top of the money twice staying in above. While she was lowly raced it would be good to get a few good races added to her record. The chestnut filly took on the turf tracks as it was her specialty she glided across the grass with a beautiful stride, at least in Terri's opinion of her. This week she would be entering a prep for the turf triple Tiara and it was a heavy field with quite a few horses entering.
While Ursa claimed Gate one, a Gorgeous George daughter, In the Spotlight took Gate two with pride and dignity. Witch Creek's Paranormal Hunter took Gate three, she was a daughter of Flash Limits out of Foolish Entity a known mare with foals like G1 Moondance. Gate four was National Treasure a Grand Silence filly. Last but not last least was Acantha by Intrepid Racing Inc. Secret's Surprise would need to step up in the game to get where she needed. Ursa was a closer and had a nasty habit of pushing forward at the very last minute.
Terri moved the filly up to a running gallop where she was slow to pace the back stretch as usual. "Come on Ursa you can do it girl." Terri said to aid confidence in her filly. Ursa heard the words from her jockey clearly and searched the furlongs necessary to get her going. She pushed her back legs harder and farther and her front legs gained the momentum to seek more ground. The turf triple tiara was just a few weeks away and Ursa would be ready to take on such a field.
Pulling around to the final turn Ursa decided to change her slow movement to a swift motion. Her name was just as it said, she liked to surprise at the last minute. Stopping the filly after she passed the wire. She snorted and danced with the slow stop a few feet from the wire. The filly would be great for this race and only the results would tell.
