Stalking Fame
I know what I want. Now I just have to get there.
The unique whinny of a black three year old filly pierced into the dark night. "Shhhhh Sassy", Kirsten looked nervously around her. Nothing moved within the shadows. Kirsten let out a sigh of relief. Sassy pranced on her lead shank full of excitement and anticipation. She was showing off for nothing, there was no one around. It was the dead of the night. "You are showing off to the shadows Sassy". The filly rolled her eyes and continued to follow her rider. Kirsten stopped at the gap and climbed the rail. Soft and swift in the shadows she was as she quickly slipped into the saddle of the young Night Stalker filly.
Sassy flickered her ears towards Kirsten as she stood still and waited her commands. Kirsten pet Sassy's neck to let her know she was ready. Off they moved onto the turf track. Kirsten relaxed in the familiarity of being on a black horse in the middle of the night. She always went out for midnight runs with Night Stalker, then Sweet Stalker and now she was starting up again with Stalking the Stars. Night Stalker and his babies tended to be calmer at night and that's when Kirsten has always felt the bond blossom. Horse and rider had to learn to trust each other and rely on their senses. Kirsten was always warned about how dangerous it was but she didn't care. She never went out at night alone with a horse she didn't know and trust. It's not like she was taking out My Man O' War. Mind you... Kirsten raised an eyebrow. That might be a key to unlocking the beast... hmm...
Sassy snorted, bringing Kirsten back to the filly at hand. She patted her again and let out a little more rein. The filly responded fluently and with confidence. Kirsten smiled. Stalking the Stars had really come a long way in her training this year and was training fantastically. Sometimes it just took some horses a bit longer than usual to mature. This was going to be her year, she could feel it. Just like her sister... Sweet Stalker had really come around in her classic season too and had managed to win the MHS Preakness and Belmont Stakes. Then her daughter, Sweet Inferno had also won the Belmont in her three year old season. Sassy was a turf runner so her path was going to be different than the rest of her sire's family but it didn't matter, she could be just as dominate over the turf.
Kirsten planned on trying her out for the Turf Triple Tiara but she will need a few easier starts first to build up her endurance and confidence. They were going to have to work harder than ever before if they were even going to be contenders. Competition was tough. But from this day forward TW was going to be seeing a lot of the Night Stalker filly on their track... and not just at night.
She let out more rein and felt the cold breeze burn her cheeks. She leaned forward and allowed the tranquility of the night calm her. They moved as one. Just like they were going to do on the weekend. They were going to take down the competition and find their glory.
