Axis Mundae

Warlock x HoF Little Miss Innocent
Axia's career does not read like the storybook of a champion. In fact, she started off small and grew towards bigger and better things. When Axia started racing, the Wire had not yet been revamped. Thus, her early career grew at Green Horse Fields. She won the first two races of her career and made appearances in some major stakes races. While she certainly did not make a statement during her juvenile season, she did go to the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf and she placed third. She was defeated by two of the best turf horses of recent years - Executioner's Apprentice and Silent Fury. She was a game third and she entered her classic season confidently. Back then, there were no special series for turf sprinter three year olds to aim for. Axia's career remained ordinary. She went to the Rose Mile Cup and placed second, then to the Girls Festival and Star Festival. She ended the season with a second place finish in the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint. She was defeated by the on fire older mare White Chocolate in the process, but she did defeat Windbreaker and two others in the process.
For Axia's four year old season, the Wire opened up for business, and that was when Axia truly began to shine as a racehorse. From the start of the season she migrated straight to TW and she truly began to excel here. She competed in all of the races she could find suitable to her distance here and became a major competitor. Her record here built her up to tackle the larger races on GHF. Without TW, Axia would not have risen to greater heights as a racehorse. She would have remained mediocre. Instead, Axia went on to end the season with a stunning nine wins, six of which came over the TW track. While her three major wins all took place at Green Horse Fields, she built her record here and achieved a lot of acclaim for that. She went to the Just A Game and the First Lady Stakes and finished second in both. She ended her season finishing second once again to White Chocolate in the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint, but the fire had been stoked. Axia was maturing into a monster.
Her five year old season was classic and beautiful. It started off with a smashing win at TW in the Winning Finish Stakes and continued into some major turf races at GHF. But TW called Axia's name, and the mare came back to her favorite track for the summer and fall. She took the Celebrate Good Times Stakes leading into her victory in the Monrovia Stakes versus stablemate and monster mare Lynara's Kingdom. Signs showed that Axia was on form for the Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf and the mare did not disappoint. In the biggest victory of her career, Axia beat the likes of Turf Triple Crown winner and Breeders Cup Mile winner Bella Luna, Triple Tiara winner Paradise Island, stablemate Lynara's Kingdom and Cotillion Stakes winner Calamity Queen. And even from there Axis Mundae continued to run one of the most impressive summer campaigns conducted by any Wire mare. She blazed next into the Diana and defeated Dazzling Dame, another of the Wire's premier turf mares, and Calamity Queen. Her summer campaign cemented Axia as a dominating force not easily dealt with or copied on the Wire tracks. By the end of the year she had twelve wins, exactly half of which came from races at the Wire.
Axia moved on to conclude her season in the major turf sprinter series at Green Horse Fields, but constantly her roots traced back to the Wire. Her fanbase resided here, and her most career defining victories were won here. This is where Axia grew up and became a champion. Without the Wire, she never would have become as good as she did. And by the end of her career she has left a mark on the tracks. Axia is one of those talented turf mares that is not easily replaced. She is a great mare deserving of induction for her rise to the top and her campaign for greatness that occurred over this track.
