Feline Frenzy Retired With Suspensory Injury:
A Cinderella Story Brought To The End
Feline Frenzy, a small bay mare with no markings, began her career as a relatively unknown or forgotten horse. She was the thoroughbred that was passed from place to place, slim and delicate, a sweetheart, but not a standout. She raced briefly for Silver Stride Stables until the beginning of her four year old season. Something about the mare caught Ripley Marsh's eye and that something was enough to have Marsh snapping her up without much encouragement. The bay filly was partnered with Laura DeComte, a newbie to the tracks of top Thoroughbred racing. The pair whipped through the lower ranks flashing the chemistry that had developed during training. Feline Frenzy began to make her acquaintance with the press and became one of the toughest mares on the circuit.
Her victory in the Seashell Cup Turf Sprint began the public's love affair with the plain Jane mare. It was the signal to Ripley Marsh that the bay mare was ready for something bigger and better than they'd ever planned for. It seemed that once that plain little mare got on the front end, she simply transformed into a dragon. She was hard to outfoot and even harder to get by in the stretch. If you wanted a challenge, you sure as heck got one when you tangled with this bay mare. Feline Frenzy went to the top of the class with an astounding victory in the turf sprint known as The Dash Stakes. She then went on to win both the Sunset Stakes and the final leg of the turf older sprint horse series in the Velocity Stakes. She beat horses such as Axis Mundae, Sugar Jayde, Spitting Image, Prideful Limits and Flying Solo. She was a hard horse to beat and seemed to understand when it counted most.
Her most prolific win came in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf Sprint versus Tears of An Angel and Loud And Clear. The crowd went crazy as the trio roared up the stretch, listening to the call: "AND THEY'RE IN THE STRETCH! TEARS OF AN ANGEL HAS REBROKEN! She is NOT giving up and she's leaving a surprised Loud and Clear in her wake! She is NOT going to let Feline Frenzy walk away with this race! She is absolutely cutting into Feline Frenzy's lead. With one furlong left to go, she's drawing up alongside Feline Frenzy"... "Who will win? Tears of an Angel sticks a nose in front...then a neck....and OH MY GOSH. Feline Frenzy has sudden gotten faster! She is DESPERATELY LUNGING FOR THAT LEAD!! I almost can't watch! She's made up that lost ground...they've hit the wire.....
It was an epic finish and it capped off the Cinderella story that was Feline Frenzy's four year old career. She came back as a four year old to finish fourth in the Dubai World Sprint behind Mastermind, Sugar Jayde and Arachne. Her final start came in the Unicorn Horn Dirt Sprint where she finished second behind Stride of Perfection Stable's Forbidden To Fly. Witch Creek was sad to discover that Feline Frenzy came out of the race with a hind suspensory injury and would miss the majority of her five year old season. Witch Creek decided to retire the mare and give her a life deserving of her epic four year old season.
But the echoes of her fantastic season remain: "FELINE FRENZY WINS BY THE WHISKER ON HER NOSE!!"... "Congratulations to Witch Creek Stable and their surprise trio member Feline Frenzy on this heart stopping victory! What a testament to the heart of a racehorse."
