GS SUPER CHARGED Workout for the Queen's Plate

[/color] Chris said walking the colt off the track and waving at the press who were watching from the seats above. Chris wondered how Ben would do in this situation. This place would be even more crowded and loud come race day and he knew how Ben acted. This would truly be a tricky race for GS Super Charged yet. After long hard work for months GS Super Charge finally graced it to Grade 4. It was a long accomplishment but there was still work that had to be done. The first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown was coming up and Chris Stevens would have the honor of riding Ben in it. The colt was a distance runner on dual surface. His aggressive nature was strict but, Chris knew how to calm the animal down. The son of Admiral's Revenge had a lot to look up to. He favored more towards dirt surfaces but, he ran evenly on both surfaces like his sire.
Approaching the track Chris settled onto the small saddle that was restless on Ben's back. The colt had rested for a few weeks before this event and finally drove up to Grade 4 by winning the Summer Cup in May and then again winning the saint Anne Derby here at the Wire June Week 2. The colt certainly made a few surprises. Reaching the track the colt snorted bobbing his head. Chris laughed towards his equine friend and patted his upper neck softly. "Alright Ben you know what to do bud." The jockey said clicking his tongue for the horse to make movement.
The Queen's Plate was the first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown and the competitors were tough. This would be the first year that any member of the newly renamed Bowen Acres horses have entered into this race. Looking at the list of racers was a tough competition. In gate one held Witch Creek's Grade 2 colt GS Royal Crown, a son of Seabiscuit who accomplished big in his racing career. Ben had a few races with GS Royal Crown and the colt had the potential like his sire. Chris would definitely would have to watch Maggiletti Reynolds who rode Royal Crown to his greatness.
Gate Two was of course GS Super Charged and like GS Royal Crown, Ben was sired by an extravagant sire who won the MHS Triple Crown known as Admiral's Revenge. GS Super Charged was a grandson to War Admiral and while the bay colt was not so tall as his sire and Grand-sire speed was in his blood and seemed to match in all of offspring of Admiral's Revenge. Ben would be ridden by his human Chris Stevens who was the only human Ben tolerated.
Gate three was Italian Ice a daughter of HoF Impressario. She had potential as well and the horses for this race were all unique in their own way. The filly was also Grade 2 and that would only mean Chris would have to work Ben a little differently to at least keep up with the other horses. Ben liked to come in from behind it was his sneaky way of finding a greater opening and taking it to his advantage. Whatever the worth the colt seemed to improve when he had his own way but, maintained a mind to potentially listen to his rider.
Ben was unpredictable on the track while he achieved slowly he always would make an impression on who he was. The gate's were always the toughest for the colt he would buck and kick but, eventually he would wait for the siren bell and the metal cages to open to begin what he was born to do. Ben had 5 wins to his name so far he was aiming for wins that would make him grade 1 and possibly more. Chris moved Ben at a steady pace keeping the colt where he progressed on the outside away from the railing.
The colt was an incredible runner but, he succeeded best at the end of the race. The colt didn't seem to give full effort in the start of the race but, give him the time and space and Ben would take his shot pulling himself through the pack to reach the front for the fight to the finish. The colt began to gallop at a heavier pace and Chris's hands still tight on the reins. The jockey knew Ben's moods and while he managed them he would rather hold onto dear life if GS Super Charged decided to throw a fit of his normal moods.
Ben did not need another racer at his side to build him confidence it was already there. Chris pulled him back coming towards the back stretch not wanting to waste his energy at the beginning of the workout. The colt whinnied while his head rose pulling his chin closer to his neck before he found his spot and took off like a speeding bullet. Chris of course was worried on the back of this horse he was not just some horse but, a dangerous animal but, nonetheless GS Super Charged was a tamed one.
The furlong pole came passed and Ben came to another speeding gallop pulling away even more. He was now in a spooked horse running for his life state. Chris would allow him to continue his spurts pulling the reins to turn the colt along the track. Ben's tail was up waving like a flag as the two ran passed a few fans. The grunts and snorts proved that Ben was on a mission. The horse was flying down this track and Chris only eased the whip passed his withers so he knew it was there.
The colt's ears drew back as the last furlong came to pass. He took off again with another inch of speed his strides farther apart. The bay colt's pounding hooves on the track surely echoed throwing dirt behind him as he went. Passing the finish line was a relief to Chris as usual. He never had this much worry when riding Gambler but, with Ben it was a different feeling.
The horse came to a proud trot moving his body to the side as he trotted. Chris needed to walk out his nerves and loosened up the reins for Ben to breath easily. He then looked at his watch and then at the timer and shook his head after removing the goggles from his face. "Right at the mark Ben."
