Nightshade & Michael Landing - Prep for FTH TURF MILE
Livin' the Jazz & Kyle Landing - Prep for the FTH TURF
The black colt moved with ease and practiced grace. Kyle couldn't help, but smile. The Follow The Hoofprint series was looming and close at hand. Last week Jax had come into a close second....the win was near at hand and in this workout they were going to work for it.
Michael fought hard with his black bay mount. She was coming off of two weeks of rest for this race...a rematch against long-standing foe, Ventura....but another top filly had entered the game, Tears of An Angel. She was more of a sprinter filly, but obviously her range dipped into the mile mark. This was going to be an interesting race to say the least...
Michael pulled his filly alongside the sleek black colt. The colt eyed the filly, eyes immediately locked on what he deemed good competition. Both horses were warmed and ready and obviously ready to go. You got an intense field Kyle...It's the largest with five horses including Jax here...think he can pull a win? Kyle looked to his colt, his canter powerful and calculated, his eyes flashed at the nearness of his rival as he felt the instinctual need to leave Atropa in his dust. Don't know...but I do know that Jax here isn't going to go down without a fight.... His voice trailed as he thought about the large field. The field was chalk full of excellent horses...two of which had been bred or previously owned by IR....and IR didn't have poor quality when it comes to horses. GS Royal Crown was making a comeback it seemed under the Witch Creek silks. Then there was GS Supercharged, a Reve son. He was a recent addition to the Bowen Acres string and they had landed their hands on some real talent. Calamity Queen, a Touch Up daughter was also going to most likely be leading the charge come race day and Lost in Memories would be running mid-pack or closing. There were at least two closers this race, depending upon where Emma ran. All around, it was going to be a fierce race, but Kyle could feel that this black colt's determination was equally as fierce...maybe more so. They wanted this win. Desperately.
They weren't the only ones. After two consecutive 2nd places to Ventura and then Italian Ice, Nightshade and Michael were out for blood. They weren't playing games and the black bay filly was well rested and prepared to fight to the death for this victory. Each juvenile was putting their best foot forward this series and they were going to give the crowds a show they wouldn't forget.
Michael smiled at Kyle...though cousins the two were more like brothers...they certainly argued like brothers, but they also knew how to work inexplicably well together. Ready? 4 furlongs... Michael smiled and drew closer to Atropa, his frame shrinking. Atropa's eyes danced fire, she was ready for this. Her cold calculating demeanor consumed her, as she locked eyes on the black colt. He was hers...hers to crush....the funny thing was he was thinking the same thing. Kyle smiled an followed suit.
The dark pair cantered and each jockey fed more and more rein to their mounts and the pace increased and increased...stride for stride there was no break of contact as the fire began to build within each mount....then the eruption. Jax moved first and Atropa was soon to follow as each began to close for the jugular...
Michael and Kyle grinned...yes these upcoming races was going to be one for the books. There was reason and purpose and steel determination within each stride the horses took and neither was backing down.
