DIRTY DIANA AND KRYSTAL YHATE
PHILIPPER MAIDEN WORKOUT
It was time to get down and dirty. Diana's stablemate had just broken his maiden and now it was Diana's turn for the crown. She had been a fantastic addition to the stable in the short time that they had had her. After working out brilliantly with Sweetie and Legacy a couple weeks ago she had worked with Dawn last week to get her spirits up. Now she was working out solo for the Philipper Maiden in a field that had drawn four others. The strong closer had vastly improved last time out three weeks ago to place second in the Avril Maiden over this very track. Now she would contest again for grade five over eleven furlongs and she was absolutely full of energy for it. Her workout with Dawn last week had gotten her on edge and Diana was raring to go.
Krystal Yhate had grown fond of this gray daughter of All For Glory. She loved how Diana loved to get right into her races. The fact that the juvenile didn't run unless it was good, soft dirt under her feet spoke volumes about her personality. Diana wanted to get down and dirty. She loved to play tricks, get caught doing them and then get scolded for it. These idiosyncrasies had given her a place in Krystal's heart. Even when she went back to Akita Rose following their reconstruction she would always be special to Krystal. As special was Mercurial Magic was becoming to Valencia. It was just that one horse that stole your heart from you and didn't let it go. They were approaching such a point in their relationship.
She was a showoff. That trait was displayed for all to see as she strode forward at more of a prance than a trot, arching her neck and whinnying gaily as though just commanding a salute to her greatness. She loved this dirt, and she let her hooves sink into it deeply. Krystal thought of the field they'd be facing in a couple of days and sighed. They were aiming for top three here, preferably a win. Perfect Moment scared her, the four year old still a maiden, and being in the middle of the pack. That Sea Siren horse from Bowen Acres would be right there with them for the race, as a closer. Dreamcatcher and Van Guard would be up front and challenging each other for the lead. They typically played preceder but no front runners were in this race. So essentially, they'd just have to run their best and give it a go. Diana had a strong closing stride which swallowed up ground. They could do it. It wasn't her closing skills Krystal was even worried about right now. It was how Amber Black's stable stalking skills with Witch Creek had progressed to the point that she could predict what horses they would buy off the market.
Krystal cleared her head with a firm shake and urged Diana into a canter. The gray opened up, her rolling stride entrancing Krystal. Her smile grew as some time passed and then they entered the gallop. They rolled right along, Diana digging in happily and enjoying the dirt under her hooves. They finished easily after four furlongs and slowed it right up, Diana barely sweating and light as air. Would this be the magic win? They would see.
