Matthias had not been strictly honest with Jacey. It wasn't that he had lied to her, as such, more that he hadn't actually told her everything and the thing he hadn't yet told her was something she really ought to know. The thing he had not told her was exactly the level of wealth she was marrying in to. After all, Matthias was nowhere near as poor as he often came across. Both him and his brother had a habit for dressing in the sorts of clothing you could buy in any supermarket. Cheap, affordable. It gave the impression that they were just average, but that was far from the truth.
However, the time to tell her was definitely here. With their daughter home and healthy they had decided to go and visit his parents and when they got their everything would come to light. In other words, he had to tell her tomorrow because the day after they would be at his parent's and that was no way to tell your fiancee just how loaded you are. So Matthias had arranged to meet his brother in a local bar where they could have a drink and discuss just how Matthias was going to do this. At least once she knew he could fetch his toy car from him mum's and keep it at the big house at Silver Stride Stables.
Matthias arrived first and ordered in the first round, consisting of two double vodkas and coke then took a seat in the corner. When Lucas arrived he walked over and sat opposite his brother, necking his drink. "What's up, Matt? Shouldn't you be at home with the missus and baby?" Matthias rose an arched eyebrow as he looked up to his brother and shook his head. "How do I tell her, Lucas?" he asked as he took a long drink of his own vodka and coke. Lucas looked at his older brother, a smile playing in his deep blue eyes. "Simple, just tell her." Again Matthias shook his head as he rose from his seat and walked the the bar, his brother just behind him.
"And how the hell is she going to take that?" he asked and his brother shrugged in his usual helpful manner. "Better than you getting to mum's without telling her... I mean, you get there and she will know. She used to be a dressage rider after all." Matthias nodded knowingly. "Yeah, just going to have to tell her, aren't I?" the barman poured two more drinks and they disappeared quickly.
"Look, Matt... Here's how to do it... Buy her something really nice. And I mean really nice. Something that she thinks you can't afford. When she asks how you got it, tell her the truth." Matt nodded, thinking about it for a moment. What had Jacey said she wanted over the months that they had been together? Their had been a lot of talk about breedings, about their beautiful daughter Amira, about the business and about themselves, but what did she want? Arabians were a passion of hers... Maybe that would be a good gift. He knew Lucas was giving her the recently broken mare that he had bred and raised as a marriage token, but he had recently seen a stunning stud for sale and had seen her looking at him.
"I know what to get her..." walking off, Matthias dialled a number on his mobile and held it to his ear. "Hey, Jord, is your boy still up for sale?" their was a voice on the other end of the phone and Matt found himself smiling. "Well he isn't any more. Can you bring him to mine tomorrow morning, say around tennish?" Again, the voice spoke and Matthias nodded to himself. "Great, I'll see you then." hanging up, he flashed a grin at his brother. "Come on, we have something to set up" The brother's finished their drinks, paid the bill and left the bar. Matthias could not wait to see the look on Jacey's face.
