It is just about that time, when all the stables in the area prep their once two year olds for Classic victory. The Triple Crown, Turf Triple Crown are just around the corner and now comes the time when there is no more time for mystery and wonder but for true reveals.
Triple Crown
Intrepid has been giving mixed signals as to who they will send to compete in the Crown trials. Uno Momento, leased from Battle Brooke Stables simply for the TC, has had a constant presence since the preps began. Jaime McGrady and Nick Landing gave us some insight into the bay colt's training for the Crown.
Jaime - "Uno has been training like a fiend, but has easily been one of the most solid workers. He's one of the easiest three year olds in the string to train and work with, but then he always seems to deliver."
Nick - "Uno has won two of the tree preps that he's entered this year, with a second place in the other. Needless to say, we know there are no guarantees in this game, but we'd be lying if we didn't have high hopes for this year's TC. There doesn't seem to be a clear favorite really, but that just means that this is anyone's game and we can't wait to see what competition comes out for the Crown Trail."
It seems that Uno Momento is poised to take on the Crown, but some of us are wondering if they didn't have another contender in the ranks. Our eyes were on another three year old colt in Intrepid's ranks, by the name of Night Visions. This black colt sired by Night Stalker and out of Admirable is one of the last of his sire's line to hit the tracks. He'd had a mild juvenile season, but something is awakening within him and everyone was paying a little more closer after his win in the TC prep race, the Florida Derby* and a place in the Wood Memorial*. We tried to pry a concrete answer about the colt's future, but all we got was this final comment:
"All we can say is that, Uno Momento will be there for the entire series. Whether or not Night Visions will be present, depends entirely on him and how the fields are looking. He may or may not make an entry into the final legs."
Turf Triple Crown
There is no room for doubts on who Intrepid is sending off to the Turf Triple Crown. World Dominion has been a force to contend with since his juvenile season and Intrepid is still high on the Worldbreaker and Alluring Assault son, but it hasn't been all roses for him. Of the three preps, the colt can boast a win in all of the top three spots, but denied a win since February. Some have questioned whether this colt has hit his peak before the classic trials, but we don't lean along that train of thought.
If anything this fearsome colt is warming and working his way up to something big and it looks like it might be just in time for the classic series. He put in a solid workout with a 3F tightener and we had to say, this colt is coming in hot and he looks to be fueled by revenge with the heavy competition coming from Notorious. The fillies presence hasn't been as competitive in previous years and it looks like the boys are taking things back this year, but that isn't to say that they are off the books. There's been a few upstarts like Cyclonaria in the Silk Road Stakes* and so we're at where we are in most of the classic series - no clear favorite.
But World Dominion is looking for revenge and strong for this upcoming challenge of the Turf Triple Crown. To date Intrepid has yet to have a serious contender in the Turf Classics, until this year and things are looking brighter than ever. The question is whether or not this chestnut colt has what it takes to get his revenge and make a statement in the Turf Triple Crown. One thing is for sure, this colt has been sitting on his Grade One breakthrough since February and he's looking primed to make a statement.
Triple Tiara
It looks like for once this year, there isn't a strong female contender in Intrepid's ranks, a big change for them from the past few years, but that was until Quick Silver started showing some real class. She's been brilliant in recent outings even putting in some impressive results in the Tiara preps. This first crop daughter of Mr. Hat and Clogs is showing that she has the stuff to make people sit up and take notice.
She's close to her breakthrough and the Tiara might just be the proving grounds to make a name for herself. Intrepid was surprised by the filly's recent performances and is starting to look at this filly a little bit more seriously and that is a good indication that the competition might want to do the same. She's been running more consistently as of late, sharpening her skills and she's looking ready for combat.
Turf Triple Tiara
No doubts here who Intrepid will be sending off to do battle over the turf this year and her name is Lady Timeah. She's sharpening up just in time. She placed in her two first Tiara Turf preps and then dropped to a third in her third prep. That had some people concerned, but Lady came back with a vengeance in the Oaks, putting those concerns to rest. This daughter of Limitless Time and Lusitania seems to be done playing second fiddle this season and looks ready to emerge from the shadows breaking her two month win dryspell.
This three year old has proven her versatility as being second to none. Turf or dirt, it doesn't matter, but with her season being focused on the turf, Intrepid is looking to prove a point that Y16 is the year for turf prowess for this dark racing queen and she has her eyes set on that Tiara.
