ATHENA'S DESIRES AND HENNA TURATH
SILENT SNAP AND AMBER BLACK
TURF TRIPLE SPRINTER TIARA/TRIPLE SPRINTER CROWN PREP
Surface compatibility generally kept these two apart; now it was being sacrificed for the purpose of excellent prep workouts. Both horses could run fine over the other surface; they just preferred to avoid racing over it. But who better to prep for the long awaited for Sprinter Crowns and Tiaras? And these two were bloody fast, well enough to give each other a real challenge. Athena's Desires led the charge onto the track. The masterfully bred black filly had won the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint last season and now departed for the Turf Triple Sprinter Tiara trail. This season had been rough; no horse was more consistent than Athena at placing second in high class races. But Athena was no pushover. She was going to be a deadly force for the Tiara and her competitors should know better than to underestimate her. Particularly with Henna Turath in the irons. Speed on speed - everybody knew Athena would be blazing on the front end.
Silent Snap was not a Breeders Cup winner, but he had shown remarkable improvement coming into his classic season. He had even taken down Sun King once, his new self-proclaimed rival - because God forbid SOPS didn't have a sprinter rivalry of some kind running with WCS. Snapper was class and speed and a stronger contender for the Triple Sprinter Crown than he had ever been. The chestnut colt was becoming brilliant, and Amber Black held him to the standard when she was in the irons. He was the half-brother of Lynara's Kingdom and related to his current workmate through Forbidden Wings, who featured in both pedigrees as an SOPS foundation mare. His improvement at three was not as marked as Lynara's, but prominent to suggest a trend present in his sireline. He also liked to lead the charge with the tireless sprinting energy that marked a Forbidden Wings descendant.
Chestnut and black engaged in the racing dance down the turf. Athena was at home here, while Snapper initially expressed his discomfort and then tossed it out the window when presented with a race. This colt thrived on racing and wouldn't let the surface stop him from crushing his relative today. Amber and Henna exchanged glances and smiles before revving up into the gallop. The two front runners challenged each other the entirety of the way around the track. Each furlong became faster as the two ran, Snapper standing up despite the surface. His determination and heart were nicely complimented by his newfound brilliance. Athena found a challenger and just went faster, reaching for the endless gears typical of a descendant of her sire and dam. Deadly Desires passed on the stamina and attitude, but the speed was all Pegasus Wings.
The fine breeding would not have mattered if it was not for the spirit of these two racehorses. As they flashed under the wire stride for stride, Amber grinned and Henna slapped a hand on her filly's neck, beaming in enthusiasm and excitement. The sprinter series was upon them and their horses were out to make a splash.
