HoF Paradise Island is proving an attentive mother to first colt, sired by Anarchi
Paradise Island might have been unknown when she first hit the track, but she quickly gathered a following and retired as a celebrated racer. As such, it is no surprise that there was a certain buzz about the fact that she would be going to brood. Despite several reporters asking, Alexia Harshing of Riverview Acres (the current owner of the Hall Of Fame inductee) refused to comment on who the mare had been covered by if she had even been covered at all.
Early this morning, however, the mystery was broken as the trainer called a press conference announcing the fact that the mare had in fact given birth to a colt sired by none other than Impressario's rival, Anarchi. A relatively untested sire, some may question the wisdom of sending the mare to such a new sire but she seems confident in her decision and says that the colt is both strong and healthy.
While not wanting to crowd the mare, who is of course new to motherhood, Alexia did release a photo of the mare and her colt which suggests that she is taking well to the role.
"While it is early days, we are pleased to announce that the birth went smoothly and both Sonja and her foal appear happy and healthy. The colt has already been named Tortuga, or Tor for short, and we will continue to update fans on his progress."
