TW Y14 THE ROYAL HEROINE GREEN MILE*

Welcome to this year's running of The Royal Heroine Green Mile. We have a nice turn out this year, the weather is a balmy 65 degrees and the ground is a little bit hard from last night's fall frost. The turf is very firm this afternoon, despite the afternoon sun. People are dressed in their fall finery to ward off the morning chill, but it hasn't turned the crowds away. The stands are full to see this leg of the Green Mile series and some of the usual's and some new faces are making an appearance.

Let's go to the post parade as the horses make their way to the gates.

Call of the Wild, from Stride of Perfection, is in the number one slot and the bay colt is in fine form. He's coming off a solid place in the Copacetic Stakes and is looking to get back into winning form. This colt has yet to win at the eight furlongs, but his trainer and rider looked confident today that Call is more than capable of clinching the win today. We are eager to see just what this colt has to bring to the table.

Paranormal Hunter, from Witch Creek Stables, is looking lively in the line up with Maggiletti Reynolds in the saddle. This is definitely the heavy favorite for this race. It is well known that this filly is more than capable of winning in the mile with two mile series wins to her name and placed in the last leg in the Frankel Mile. This is her first race of the month and her rider is already having to apply pressure on the filly to keep her in line. This is one that everyone will be carefully watching.

Daddy's Overdraft, from Grayson Meadows, is in the third slot. She brought an upset win in Week 1 of this month against turf favorite The Devil's Hourglass showing that this is no filly to simply overlook. She's coming into form and her experience will definitely help her in today's race. She is easily the second favorite, a risky one to place a winning bet on, but not out of the realm of reason.

Last, but not least is the surprise addition of Secret's Surprise from Nature Blue Stables. This filly is definitely has a much lighter record in comparison, but she boasts of great consistency. She's competed against some of these horses before and should definitely be benefiting from her last go in the Frankel.

The horses are loading up into the gates, Para giving her gate workers a run for their money, but it looks like they've finally gotten the filly to load. They're all in and they're OFF!

Daddy's Overdraft is first off the block and settles into an easy lead as Paranormal Hunter and Call flank her outside with Secret's Surprise trailing on Call's flank. Overdraft has a solid lead and doesn't look to be setting an extraordinary pace as the pack of closers leave the grey filly to her own means. This is by no means a quick pace as they fly into the first half at 0:48:10. With only four furlongs left there is little shifting in the order, but now they are turning for home with Daddy's Overdraft pushing now into a new gear with little urging from her rider. She seems more than aware of the threat behind her and she's increasing her lead and pulling away. There's a lot of go in that filly, but the competition is rallying, their tanks still full and ready to go. Paranormal Hunter takes the challenge with Call flying on her heels on the outside. Secret's Surprise is rallying, but the sudden take off of the pack seems to have left the filly in their turf debris, but she is not giving up and closing in on lost ground.

Paranormal Hunter is closing in now as Daddy's Overdraft and she square off, but the leader is not breaking. Reynolds taps the filly with her whip and Para seems to find another gear, eager to break down the defiant obstacle, but on the outside Call of the Wild has gone unchallenged and is bearing down ruthlessly on the leader. He's going for the lead and Para is defiantly trying to hold him off, but Call is ruthless! He's nosed a lead, a neck and it's the wire!!! Daddy's Overdraft comes in a length behind Paranormal Hunter, just holding off a very game Secret's Surprise. What an amazing finish for Call of the Wild as the unofficial winner of the Y14 Royal Heroine Green Mile! What a great race from superb horses.
