In a surprise move, Silver Stride Stables have scratched up and coming three year old, Paradise Island, from the Kentucky Oaks. The filly has raced in, and won, both of the prior Triple Tiara preparation races and was looking good for this next race which led to some speculation that something had happened to the bay filly. These rumours have now been falsified in a press release from Matthias Lanning, the head trainer for both Silver Stride Stables and their affiliated stable, Serendipity Hills.
"Despite what you may have heard, or perhaps hoped in the case of some stables, Sonja has not in fact been injured. Instead, we have decided to let her rest ahead of the Triple Tiara, which starts in two weeks time. This will allow us to ensure that Sonja is at her very best for the series. We will be watching the Kentucky Oaks closely, however, as it gives us a chance to see exactly what level of competition we will be facing in our bid for the series. You will see Sonja for the Acorn Stakes."
Matthias Lanning refused to answer further questions, including those regarding the surprise entry of Instant Success into the Triple Crown.
