Crazed Passion
"Good girl," I stroked the nose of the almost black filly. She currently stood at fourteen three hands high, but she would grow. Her conformation was immaculate, and she definitely had some spirit. She'd already been handled in a head collar, and today, I wanted to see how she could go with a saddle cloth and a girth with a bit in. The bridle I'd got for her was brown. It had no noseband, but a bit, throatlash and cheek pieces. It was only an eggbutt snaffle, but it was time to see how she reacted. The bridle didn't have reins, so I'd be free schooling her to see how she'd go. The saddle cloth being put on her back was fine. I went to do the girth up and she started to quiver, and kick her stomach, almost like it was tickling her. I managed to do it up to hole two on each side. I'd be sure that next time I got a wool covering for her. It seemed to be going well so far. I clipped the leadrope on, and as I lead her out, the lunge whip caught her eye. I picked it up and let her sniff it, and she was fine. Her father, Impassioned Wind blazed the tracks overseas. He came over to Green Horse Fields and won some here, winning somewhat fifty races out of ninety two starts. The True Nut was very well known on Green Horse Fields - and this is where Craze got her hyperness from.
I walked her in to the round pen, where she walked in and stood still. I let her off and she stood still. I showed her to lunge whip and she began to back up. "Good girl, Craze." I said to her, walk on, I walked to her side and let the lunge whip loose. The end fell to the floor, but didn't touch Craze. She shot forward and started to have a bit of a bucking fit. She whinnied and let out short snappy bucks to get attention, but then began to trot. She lowered her head and flicked her toes before breaking into canter and throwing in another cheeky buck. "Walk..." I said to her. She came back down the paces and walked slowly and loosely. After a few laps of voice recognition, I moved the lunge whip behind her. "Trot on, trot on," I said to her. She broke into a lovely and free moving trot. She pricked her ears and held her neck in well. She was really beginning to muscle up. "Well done Craze." I asked her to canter and she broke into a long strided relaxed canter, really working herself into her corners. She was on the right lead. We slowed down and did everything on the opposite rein. I walked her round a bit round the pen. I took the lunge whip out and let her loose on her own. Trot on, I said. Almost instantly, she broke into a bouncy trot, with another minor bucking fit. She then cantered a stride. "Woah, trot," I said. "Good girl," Craze stayed at a trot then after a lap or two, I brought her back to a walk and took her back to the stall, where I untacked her. "Great work, sweetie pie." I patted her.
