A Monetary System

I voted no only because that's what's strayed me away from other sites I as well am no good with math but as well with a life as busy as mine I would barely be able to keep up with the money system. I liked this site and GHF because they were different in general from other horse racing sites. It's like Snowy trying to make her changes with the racing systems. So I say no as well.

I think some of you all are balking at this because you feel it will be too time consuming. It really shouldn't be, it takes just a few seconds for me to add in money winnings for a horse. It would take a few minutes to add a sum total to a bank once per game week. As long as we keep all the figures whole numbers (not like 4763.58) it doesn't tax the brain that much, and if you're in college you should be able to handle adding in 50,000 to a 340,000 total without too much problem. XD

The time consuming aspect of this would be just a few times a year when you figure out how much to sell a horse and your stud/brood fees. I'm sure there would be on day every couple of months you could spend an hour or so doing that, and it certainly wouldn't take that large of a chunk like workouts did.

As a side note I have to agree with Frosty and disagree with Ren on the taxes idea, however I don't think it should be called taxes, rather monthly expenses or monthly stable fees. Keeping it simple, an amount per horse, say, would be most efficient and most fair. I don't think we should use percentages like for earnings of races, that would be too complicated. Adjust the earnings page if necessary but whatever the purse is should just go into our bank (I realize there are jockey fee, owner fee, trainer fee, etc. but that's going too deep) unless you want to say purse is $500,000 ~ Your bank gets $250,000 in that way it keeps it simple for the eye to grasp it. In any case it would get confusing that way because the horse would get $500,000 but then we'd have to get $250,000 and I think that complicates it too much. Simple and straightforward, easy for newcomers to grasp.

As an extra note, we could have some charities or some banks for instance that members who are amassing a ton of money could donate to. Like OTTB foundation or a fund were members who advertise would get money from. Or we could adjust monetary earnings/monthly stable fees to help keep the numbers in better check. But at the end of the day, if you're managing your horses so well and you're active for a very long time, does it really matter if you have a large bank? It just shows who was able to truly be successful and offers a lot of freedom for older players in terms of sale opportunities, which is more realistic.

So let me write out everything I am hearing.

Pros:

• Realism
• Actual rewards - end of the year perks, etc
• Adds motivation & incentive to remain active

Cons:

• Math Complications
• Time & Life Constraints
• Change over all lol

Now here is my logic. Our goal is not to make things less enjoyable here and I'll admit, when the idea of a monetary system was brought up, I had ALL the same objections. I work a full-time job and have life, so adding another thing when we just reduced workouts was like a "no - duh" moment, but the longer the staff and I talked the more appealing it was and this is my reasoning:

We currently pay in stud/brood reserves and get sweet perks with the surface supremes, etc. We're at the point now though, that they are sometimes even too easy to come by to the point now we just do whatever we want with no satisfaction of having worked to achieve the end results. The closest we get to that satisfaction is at the End of the Year Rewards and even then sometimes it just becomes more of a popularity contest. Having money won from races, sales & breeding fees will only add to satisfaction as players.

What I don't want is things to become complicated because then that isn't fun for anyone. So let me lay out my thoughts in their simplest form.

Winnings: This will be the main source of income. The money amts listed for the races can remain as is on the GHF guide or we can also look at higher purse prizes for bigger HOTY* races (which is more realistic in my opinion).

Judging: I as the admin will personally place funds into people's accts for judging because for some reason the same people keep judging and this adds incentive and rewards to those who take the time to judge.

Sales: This would be the main reason to get that money. To purchase new horses.

Breeding: Other Main reason to gain money.

Shop: Surface supremes, custom kits...and we will probably come up with some new fun things to buy just because. There are plugins that will literally allow you to go to a page on the site and spend your cash in the shop.

How would the money be added into accounts. I see this working one of two ways. We can have a thread for each member to post their weeks winnings and the assigned staff member can add or detract the appropriate funds (would only need to detract for breedings and sales since the shop would automatically deduct). I heard the protests about calculating, but you in all reality wouldn't need too. It would be like copying into your thread at the end of the week something like this:

and the admin in charge of the funds would add the money to your account. No adding on your part, unless you specifically wanted to have the Lifetime earnings listed on your horse's page, but that would be a personal decision.

I think some of us are making it more complicated than it needs to be. It would literally be copying your results from the week and placing the cash value. If you wanted to calculate it in total for your pages that would be to your discretion

As for where we would all start out money wise, if we proceed with this, we would get down to more logistics and the same would go for new members.

I think we were all making this a little more complicated than what I had in mind. :P

I'm more for what Cav just said than anything involving taxes and stuff. If we're going to introduce this, can we please start it as simple as above instead of adding a lot of complicated monthly expense type of things? If people start having too much money and for some reason that's deemed a problem, we can deal with it then.

And Cav, you're right. I personally just don't like change when I don't see anything wrong with the current system. But if we're going to start this, compromising by keeping things small and uncomplicated at first seems like the most enjoyable option all around.

I'd rather compromise and start small . We don't even have to worry about the breeding part until Year Seventeen anyway.

Judging: I definitely support this xD. Maybe even as small as 100$ a race, but at least that's something.

Shopping for S/S, Extensions: I also like because we can go for it whenever we need it.

Sales: Definitely. Prices would obviously be set by former owners. It would make horse trading that much more interesting.


So obviously the tough parts will be the admins coming up with the bank accounts and base monies for all members and the purses for races.

Purses for races definitely will need some discussion between GHF, TW and BSD. We already came up with categories and then we'll have to break them down to make them understandable to members.

That would be double. We can't get too carried away in what HOTY G1's are worth, but that would be a good standard maybe? Obviously the special races would be worth even more than the HOTY G1s.

I think $200,000 is a good amount for HOTY wins at G1 just because say the Kentucky Derby in RL the purse is $1,425,000 for first place ($2mill in total). So we could potentially make the purse here around $900,000 and split it three ways? Unless we want to go by actual RL purses for major races like the series and such.

As for undercard purse for G2, we could make it around $80,000-70,000 and make it decrease in increments of $10,000-20,000 for each grade going down?

This idea intrigues me quite a bit because it opens up many possibilities to the sites. I always thought we should be limited on breeding because without some kind of restraint we will be overrun with horses that have been bred. So far I like the system that Ripley has recorded and think it should be simple enough that it won't take more than a few minutes to keep track of money from races. I already have a system set up for entering races to keep myself straight so it wouldn't be too hard to add in that weeks earnings and post it in a board like a couple of you have mentioned.
