Ariel Winslow danced with Mainspring underneath her. Kyle Landing jumped up onto Oro's back, the chestnut filly looking as brilliant and eager as ever. Michael was there astride a cunning eyed Meritorious as Adele sat astride the black Night Stalker son, Night Visions. "Am I late to the party?" Brody asked as he and Fusillade cantered up to the quad. Everyone just laughed or shook their head at the newbie., but he took it all in stride. He was used to the ribbing and the jokes, it was after all what family did and that is exactly who these people had become to him.
There was the snorts of challenge and the nicker of horses as the five jockeys congregated off to the side of the rail and out of the flow of traffic. "Alright, alright, everyone lets focus in," Nick hollered, commanding everyone's attention. Night Visions flicked his ears towards the man with a look of disdain, but Adele soothed the colt by patting his neck. The talking simmered as everyone focused on the boss man leaning casually on the rail as Jaime sauntered up by his side.
Kyle, Ariel and Michael. You three will be galloping for five and home in three. Adele and Brody, you two will be galloping for five and home in two. Let's work our horses smart and efficient. It's our first real full week back after we've been slaving away at home. So let's make an impression this weekend. Everyone's eyes lit up with the challenge and soon five thoroughbreds were taking to the track.
Mainspring was a rare find. The four year old stallion had finally seemed to come into his own this year and have proven time and time again his love for the dirt. His company today though, loved the dirt just as much. Restricted Access was proven consistent talent and she galloped with an eagerness that was easy to tell she just loved to run. Meritorious was pure pent up energy and fury as the Admirable daughter refused to budge an inch in her workout with her partners. Michael had a firm hand on her, but Nick knew he wouldn't be able to hold her back for long. She was long over due for a race and had some massive energy to burn.
The trio gripped the dirt with such ease and confidence as they came for home, Nick and Jaime murmured their approval. The private sessions had done wonders for all the IRS stock, but there was just something different about getting out and doing the work in a more public arena. There was the added pressure to perform and sometimes it was that pressure that pushed horses and riders alike to do great things. Mainspring, Restricted Access and Meritorious flashed home in style putting to rest any doubts that they had been slacking off in their training regimens. If anything, they were hungry. Very hungry.
Night Visions and Fusillade couldn't be any different than night and day, that much was blatantly apparent, but Nick had a good feeling about their work. Fusillade would be attempting a leg of the Risorgimento Derby, a series her and Kirsten themselves had established long ago. It was just the chance the colt needed to push ahead for a win. The fiery chestnut was only two wins shy of Grade three and Nick was eager to see the colt work wonders. Night Visions had developed a little slower than he'd anticipated, but it was not a detriment. Every horse was different in their development and the stubborn final son of Night Stalker was definitely doing things his own way.
The competitive energy between the two colts crackled as they galloped and then charged for home. Neither willing to bend or concede as Adele monitored Sy and Brody sat poised on Blitz. Two very different colts, but one very similar finish as they both unleashed a final burst of speed to settle the score.
