There has been a lot happening behind the scenes at IRS. Nick Landing and his crew have been working hard to maintain a competitive presence in all areas and divisions. It should come as no shock then as the massive stable's ranks grow that others will be looking to be moved into their next phase of life - retirement. There is no doubt that the dirt division is where IRS shines and with clashing interest Nick Landing made the decision to retire G1 runner Ramirez.
This son of Night Stalker and Charisma, dam of IRS TC Contender Ultimate Revenge, is retiring not in shame with seventeen career wins and 96% consistency in the money. He had a late start to his racing career, but when IRS came back onto the scene this bay colt quickly stepped up to the plate. Nick Landing showed fond affection for the colt when we requested to comment on his retirement. "Ram has been a huge stepping stone in helping IRS return back to it's former glory. When we arrived back on the scene in Y12 we had re-acquired the colt at the end of the year, but when Y13 rolled around he quickly proved his worth, his consistency in the races always a moral booster in the rough start any stables has when they come into the scene here. Ram has run a solid career and we couldn't have been more proud of his accomplishments."
Ramirez however isn't the only Grade One that's saying farewell to the track. Grade One Turf sprinter Mighty News is moving on as well. This son of News Flash and Sophie Might has had a fluctuating career, but he finally took the tracks with consistency under the IRS silks. He came to IRS from Star Thoroughbreds after he was reclaimed from Riverview Acres. He never faltered in his performances and at the age of four finally reached his grade one status. He too, is boasting of a 96% consistency on the tracks. With Stiletto Allure, Daring Vision waiting in the wings, Nick made the hard choice to retire the stallion in order to better focus on the next coming generation of sprinters.
When asked if there were any potential crossings in the works for either stallion, Nick Landing could only smile and say,"Yes, Ramirez already has a date booked for next year and that's all I will say about that. It's still early for Mighty News, but I'm sure it won't take long before he has his own first crop on the ground."
Well there you have it! Two new stallions have been added to the ranks, definitely stallions serious breeders will want to take into consideration.
