SEASIDE NEWS: FIRST EDITION

OCTOBER WEEK THREE

As the end of year fourteen is fast approaching, new stable Oceanic View Stables have gotten off to a blazing start. With the addition of eight new active racehorses and many more breeding stock, the stable has just begun its climb to the top of the racing world. Married couple Felicity and Blake Chay have always dreamed of owning a racing barn and breeding some top-of-the-line racers. Their dream finally came true in the middle of the year when they joined GHF and The Wire. Between generous donations and a few stragglers at sales, OVS has built up a small racing roster ranging from the well-bred to the forgotten lowly horses waiting for a second chance.

Some names that are worth watching next year include:

Seems Legit

This year thirteen colt, by HOF True Enough and out of Luscia, is making his name known in the prospect string. He first raced January week four and won his first prospect race in week four of June, however this was before OVS got a hold of him. After that he was not raced again until arriving at Oceanic and went on the win his very first race with them in August week one, a HOTY race, GHF’s Next Top Racehorse R8*. Since then he has been backed off a little due to limited races and not wanting to rush the yearling into the racing scene. He has two more races coming up October Week Four and November Week One, but after that, Felicity plans on bringing him back in to training to prepare for his year fifteen debut. Great things are expected from this guy, as his sire is a proven producer of G1s.

Flaming Confidenza

Already one race away from breaking G5, this little filly is blazing her way on the tracks as a two year old, living up to her name. By G3 Confianza and G1 Dashing in the Firelight, Denza has already won over her new owner’s hearts. Bought from a sale at Nature Blue in mid-September, this palomino filly last raced in July and had one win under her belt. Since then she has raced twice with Oceanic, and both times she has brought home a win. Felicity and Blake were both blown away at Denza’s performances on the track. They have since then realized that they may have a HOTY, G1, and potentially a HOF mare on their hands. November week one will be her first attempt in a HOTY race, GHF Gallop to the Gallows Stakes*, and the hope remains high that she will continue to bring home wins.

Glory Bell

Spending most of his three year old season off, Glory Bell (by Bank on Glory and out of Flashabelle) is being brought back into work as a racehorse. Felicity came across this forgotten colt in the process of buying his dam at a Nature Blue sale in September. With amazing bloodlines, Felicity could not let the colt be lost. At least if he showed little interest in running again, he could make a great foundation stallion. He had a terrific two year old season with his former owner and won three races before being taken out of the racing scene. Since then he has gone through extensive training at Oceanic and has a few races under his belt for year fourteen. With the end of the year dwindling, Felicity is hoping to get him back into shape in time for his four year old season. Not much is known as to how Glory will run in the future, however he puts his heart into running and OVS is just happy to have been able to save him from disappearing.

Majestic Hero

Acquiring Jester from the Sugarhill Racing reclaim sale, Blake and Felicity are ecstatic that they were able to get a hold of the colt. Being one of Handsome Tabby’s biggest rivals, they had admired watching him run. They jumped at the chance to own the bay colt. By HOF Everyday Hero and out of G4 Amazing Grace, Majestic Hero has managed to keep his 100% racing streak, even after having a month off. His two year old season is one of the most impressive OVS has ever seen, winning 6 races and immediately pushing his way into G4. He is currently a G3 and is two wins away from G2. Felicity is hoping to get him graded up by the end of this year and save his four year old season chasing the G1 spot and HOTY races. Having already won a couple HOTY races and placing in the money on several other ones, if all goes well through the end of the year, this colt may be nominated for a HOTY spot for year fourteen.

Handsome Tabby

Given to Oceanic by Grayson Meadows, Tabs has become the most successful project they have taken on so far. A created horse, nonetheless, has proven to be an amazing turf distance runner and continues to push ahead on the race track. Winning two more races since coming to OVS, Tabs is gunning for G1 and has manage to keep 100% consistent running record. This chestnut started out having a harder time running in the HOTY races and as a result, has been dropped back to the undercard races until he builds his confidence up again. He has done exceptionally well in the smaller races and Blake’s plan is to try him out in GHF Winter Cup* series to see if any improvement has been made. It is hopeful that he will run as well as he has been. Felicity is extremely excited about his potential for next year and plans on racing him through his five year old season.

Daydream

Saved from the Riverwood Acres/Oak Hill Farm sale, Daydream (by Aces Diamond Rio and out of Precocious) has proven that she is not done running yet. Not much was known for her future when Felicity and Blake spotted her in the dwindling sale pens. Unraced as a five year old, she had potential to be a good foundation mare. Although she still had that spark in her eye that Felicity saw right away. They tried her out in her first race and naturally, she came in fourth. However they were not ready to give up on her yet. She won the Autumn Cup G4 Dirt Sprint* the next week and managed to pull out a win once again in the Aries Stakes. This little mare is determined to show how much she loves running and that she is not ready to give up. Felicity plans on giving her that chance until the end of the year. As for next year, she already has a scheduled breeding with Buccaneer, a G2 stallion. Who knows, they may decide to race her up until her breeding.
