RADIATION THERAPY Jockeyed by Carlos Sanchez
SOUTHWEST STAKES // March Workout
Radiation Therapy was an up and down colt. With only two wins to his name, Carlos decided it was time to pick up the pace with Duke and get him up to speed. The colt had potential in his heart and Carlos would prove it. Saddling up the colt, he walked the colt onto the dirt tracks to start his day. The dark bay colt was a son to Radiance, a well known stallion for Stride of Perfection stables, Duke was out of Santana's Moment. Radiation Therapy was a sweet boy given his name and would never come to harm a fly. Trotting the colt out Carlos slid his goggles over his eyes gently.
He was entered in the Southwest Stakes which was a race to prep for the Triple Crown. Other entrants were fierce this week and once again Duke was against one of his half siblings. Gate One was the gate Duke was under with a lucky break of holding that number one spot. Gate two entrant was In Front, a colt running for Witch Creek Stables. In Front was a son to well known sire Touch Up who also sired such horses like The Devil's Touch and Fiery Touch. In Front's Dam was Flight of Fancy. Gate Three was Radiant Silver another colt sired by Radiance out of Silver Stalker. Gate Four's entrant was Anodyne running for Intrepid Racing Inc. Anodyne was an Augusto son who would share the attitudes of such a strong stallion.
The competition for this race was fierce and Duke would need a proper workout with motivation and desire. Duke was a stalker horse but started out within the middle of the pack. The colt was a bit fiery this afternoon with his morning meal late. "Calm down Duke just a little run today to calm your nerves." He said before moving the colt to a gallop that would appear as a running motion. Duke's last workout was back in January so this was certainly needed for him to move up. The colt listened to Carlos very well and when coming along the back stretch he was set to gain speed. Duke moved his strides farther apart and began to pick up speed within moments. He was a distance runner so stamina called out his name as well.
The colt moved swiftly along the backstretch as he then moved away from the rails and picked up more speed to his advantage of a clear track. Now, Duke was just having fun when he lifted his head and snorted just a bit. Pushing at an even faster pace coming around the last turn, Carlos smiled and aided Duke by lifting himself to release weight on the colt. When the pole came up, Radiation Therapy took off with his final stride to pass the wire with flying colors."That a boy." Carlos said having the colt stop. This was a tough race ahead of him and he would need the rest for it after this.
