Horse: Fleet Street
People: Melanie Mackenzie & Charlie Burke Jr
Place: The Wire Stable Row
Date: December 8 2013 (January Week Two)
Changes
it's too hard to deal
Melanie left the stable row at TW track with a sigh. She could still hear the loud banging of the hooves in the third stall from the left. Well, it was definitely a smart idea to bring the juvenile colt to the track a week early. Flee just cannot handle any type of change whatsoever. Melanie sighed again. She was going to have to talk to Kirsten about leaving him at the track for the entire season.
She stepped up to her truck and leaned against the door. It was dirty but at the moment she couldn't care less. She replayed the last three hours in her mind with regret. Flee had been a nightmare. It actually took three hours to move the black juvenile just thirty minutes away. She watched as ARS' head trainer, Charlie, emerged from the stable row himself. He walked up to her and joined her against the side of her truck. "Wow".
Melanie nodded in agreement. Wow was a pretty accurate statement. "I think Flee should just stay here the entire season." Charlie nodded. "Yeah, I'll talk to Kirsten. She won't be happy - that means he will miss out on the Youth Challenge Series." Melanie shrugged. "We've got other horses that can go. There are a lot of important two year old races here too. Besides, the Youth Challenge is at the end of the season. Things could change yet." Although she said those final words she didn't believe Fleet Street will ever be capable of change. "Change? Humph", murmured Charlie. Melanie just smiled. Flee was a HUGE pain in the rear but she had a soft spot for him.
Charlie pushed his hat further down on his head. "Well, I guess you'll be here bright and early for his workout tomorrow." Melanie glanced up in surprise. "We are still going to work him tomorrow morning after this disaster?" Charlie nodded. "You betcha. Think of how much worse it can get if we don't keep his morning routine. We need him ready for his first race next weekend." Melanie rolled her eyes. He was right about that! Charlie swore under his breath and walked to the passenger side of her truck. Melanie smirked to herself. Night Stalker's progeny was definitely giving the trainer a heck of a time.
