The Little Colt that could...That's right after placing in 3rd in the Novisio Derby last year, GS Super Charged kicked its butt this year. While resting the colt after the Canadian Triple Crown Chris Stevens, jockey of GS Super Charged prepped the colt specifically for this race. The colt was up against tremendous horses such as Van Guard, a gelding for Witch Creek Stables, Predator from Intrepid Racing Inc, and Nature Blue's own Radiation Therapy.
The colt started last as usual but in the end broke loose passed the leader Predator to take the win by 4 Lengths. Holding his head high GS Super Charged had a great win. With this win, the bay colt will now be starting in tougher fields as the Novisio Derby win meant his new start in the G3 title. Watch out everyone, this Admiral's Revenge son is not done but has only just begun.
Crystal Newly a new reporter for the stables had a few questions for jockey Chris Stevens about the slow development the colt had this season and last.
Crystal Newly: So, Chris this win is a big win for GS Super Charged? Why is it a big deal?
Chris Stevens: Yes it is only because we have been trying to find suitable races for him and we found that he drives for competition and the Novisio was a big deal race.
Crystal Newly: It seems Super Charged is a bit like his Sire, who retired due to too much aggression? What makes this horse any different?
Chris Stevens: Ben as we call him, is yes like Admiral's Revenge in the attitude sense of way. He has his moods and he shows no care for other humans. The bond I have with him is like a bond I would have with my best friend. He is not overly aggressive to the point where he is a danger on the track but he is an aggressive runner. I know for a fact the other horses out there are safe.
Crystal Newly: What is to come for Ben in the future?
Chris Stevens: Plans for him in the future? Well I think he will be moved back to the easier races but he's moved up a grade now so I want to say I think he will be headed for the Breeders Cup.
Crystal Newly: Just one more question Chris...GS Super Charged is becoming high up on the ranks...What horse scares you the most?
Chris Stevens: That is a difficult question to answer Ms. Newly. There are a lot of horses that scare me here one of them in mind is Mastermind that colt is such an amazing animal. I would also have to say Souvenir, Ben's brother is a hard one to keep up with.
