GS SUPER CHARGED Ridden by Chris Stevens
Utanali Derby // January Workout
Utanali Derby // January Workout
It was a new day and a New Year thank god. Chris was ready to set Ben in new races now that he was a 3 year old colt. He was a bit more mature and but, still in his moody habits. The bay colt held his head high while Nina was trying to feed the colt he then neighed at her kicking the stall with his fierce eyes. Chris of course ran over to the young handler and sighed just a tad bit. "Listen Nina why don't you leave Ben to me he isn't very friendly of others, Okay?" He said then rubbed the colts nose to calm him down.
Ben could only jab his head up and down, Nina walking away with nothing to say at all. Yes, GS Super Charged only allowed one human in his paddock and one human alone, Chris Stevens. The two were human to horse friends. Placing the halter on the 3 year old he took Ben out of the stall and walked him to the equipment stables. The colt would have a much better year this year as his 2 year old season was a bit of a tough one. He did however came in third place in the Novisio Derby which got the colt some attention but, not a lot.
He was to run in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf but, failed to come in the top three. He was only a 2 year old going up against more experienced horses. This year would be better for the colt or so Chris hoped. He cleaned Ben's hooves and brushed him before placing the saddle on him. Chris was normally just a Jockey but, with Ben's attitude he was his handler, his trainer, and his jockey of course, Chris got some advice from Mason when they weren't around the colt.
Chris then walked Ben out of the stables and onto the practice tracks on the Wire. His first race of the year was the Utanali Derby at The Wire. He was up against great horses in this race including Bellefire, that was the horse he had to look out for along with True Fire, and Indian Darling. But what caught Chris's attention was that Ben was racing against his dearly beloved Aunt. Chris would make sure that Ben would be well prepared for the War Admiral daughter.
Walking him before the track Chris climbed up onto his back as a few people would watch the colt from aside. Chris allowed the pictures to be taken for his friend but, interviews would not be given. Today, Chris was focused on getting Ben ready for the new year. "What do you say we have a nice run huh Ben?" Chris said as he adjusted his goggles over his eyes as he then guided the bay colt into a jog for the first furlong. When Chris felt that Ben was going smoothly he had him come to a full gallop until reaching the half post where he turned him loose.
Ben pounded the ground with his hooves while he felt the light weight of his human friend on his back as he soared through this turf track with ease. For each length of the track he switched gears giving it his go. This distance runner may have had his difficulties but, at least he tried his best. He still had years to go. This triple crown colt stayed clear of the rail in this run and when the home stretch came to approach the colt settled into the highest gear he could go until reaching the wire where his jockey brought him to a slow trot.
When coming to a stop Ben reared up with with fire in his heart. He wasn't angry just didn't want to stop running. Ben then remained in his place as Chris let the colt have his mood, there was no reasoning with Ben when he decided to act out he was a ten ton animal with strength. Chris just held onto the colt's reins and mane while he reared up and pounded the ground. After he was finished Chris slid off the back of GS Super Charged to immediately pull him off the track. He was ready for this week's race but, Chris was also worried for his attitude this race.
Ben was known for his temperaments and Chris would at least try to make him calm for the race. Ben had his Sire's temperament but, it wasn't so bad that the colt would have to be kept from the track. "Oh come on Ben. No need to act like that." Chris said as he walked GS Super Charged to his stall where he could be away from other two legged humans. This race was going to be difficult with all the good racers out there at least he would try to get to first place.
