Apollo Bear
prep for the Queen's Plate.
&
Thunderstrike
Melanie's hair flew back in the wind as her tall mount pounded along the trail. She heard the hoof prints catching up to the flank of her horse. She urged Striker for more. He gave it. Thunderstrike had an amazing sprint speed and was great at endurance. It was a rare quality to have in a racehorse.
She glanced back under her arm at their competitor behind them. Aaron and Apollo Bear were close at their heels. She smirked. Thunderstrike had a lot of steam left. She patted his neck and urged him even further. Once again the five year old stallion increased his speed.
Aaron frowned and urged Olio even further. Why was Melanie going at such a death pace down the trails? Does she not realize how dangerous this was? Olio stretched out his neck and tried to increase his pace. Aaron kept him in check. No way he was going to kill ARS' best shot at the Canadian Triple Crown. They were on the trails today to work on Olio's endurance with ARS' toughest endurance racer but this is a little bit too severe. There was no way Olio would be able to keep up this pace all the way to the clearing down this trail...
Aaron gritted his teeth and allowed a bit more rein. Olio took it right away. The colt was probably frustrated already. He has been coming in second in every race lately. He needed a win. BAD.
The Queen's Plate was going to be death, all the best three year olds around will be entered: Eternal Phantom, Instant Success, Euphoria's Warrior... yikes. Olio would be a guaranteed last. Maybe not. He frowned and let out even a bit more. Olio was fast, he just needed a good break. He was high caliber. If only the three year olds this year weren't so competitive...
Apollo Bear's breath was strained. It's been fifteen minutes of trail ride terror at full blast. It felt even longer. He could see the clearing up ahead. It wouldn't be long now. Olio's nose was right on Striker's flank. He was holding his own.
The two horse and riders flew out of the trees into the soft clearing. As soon as the path had widened out Olio moved along side the older stallion. He was tired of chasing second. He needed a win.
