Matthias was not around, and nor was Jacey, leaving the training in the hands of Matthias's brother and head handler at Silver Stride Stables, Lucas Lanning. Lucas had a past of training horses from the time he was young, and despite his title being head handler he had helped out with the training of the horses since he first arrived. In many ways, Lucas was a trainer at the stable but it was a role he did not want to make official - everybody knew his goal was to become a jockey and he enjoyed the amount of hands-on work he got with the horses as a handler. Of course he did not mind helping out, however. Especially now, with their beautiful baby girl on her way home today as a happy and healthy baby. Really, the work should have gone to Anya but she was so new and inexperienced it would not have worked and so it was Lucas who was dealing with the workouts.
The one he had been looking forward to all day was going to be a real show down, with the Cryin' Out Loud twins Tears Of Blood and Tears Of An Angel. When the breeding had resulted in twins, each stable had taken one foal and neither had really been disappointed as those twins had grown into two strong, agile racers. Of course, the twins had not faced one another since their very first race in January Week One when the filly had nosed the colt out to take the win, but he had heard Mitch going on about this workout, and he knew both the horse and jockey would be looking to prove themselves in this outing. No doubt, however, Ivana would be looking to prove female superiority on the track once more. What was bound to make it all the more interesting, however, was the dare... The very reason that Alexia Harshing had decided to attend the workout was so that she might watch the outcome of the bet.
Mitch was ready to prove just how talented Sanguis was in this workout. The chestnut colt was a powerful racer with a perfect record having not placed outside of the top three yet. He was proving himself time and time again, but he was not alone in his advancement for his twin sister had been doing just as well. With both two year olds performing as they had, the stables were over the moon and with their affiliation every victory resulted in a celebration for both stables. Even when they went against each other both stables celebrated a victory, although things tended to be a little tense before a race because they each wanted to see their own stable victorious.
The workout was set for five thirty, an evening workout which was likely to be more like a race as the agreed distance had been five furlongs on the dirt track. But first, there was to be a short meeting in Matthias' office between all the staff involved to discuss the workout, and (unknown to the Serendipity Hills team) for Mitch to carry out his dare. The Silver Stride Stables team were already there, Lucas sat in Matthias' chair with Alexia perched on his knee, his arms around her waist and Lucas stood in the corner, energetic and clearly nervous for what he knew he had to do.
((This workout is dated April Week 4))
