they have done it. ars has finally moved their entire stock to the wire's racetrack. kirsten grinned and plopped down on a box in her temporary office. it had been a long couple of days and her horses were pretty tired of moving but at least now they wouldn't have to move anyone for a few weeks (then it would be apollo bear who might be moving to the ghf track to prep for the triple crown. she rubbed her hands together. she couldn't wait to see how that was going to go. they needed to do some obvious working. in fact all of ars' racing stock needed a lot of training if they were going to bring their stable to the top of the racing world this year.
speaking of which, kirsten grabbed her clipboard and stretched her back. it was about time to work her stock and today was going to be a longggg day. they were going to work everyone.
midnight thriller.
she grabbed her helmet and crop and a water bottle. she was going to take midtee out first before the rest of the staff arrived at the track. midtee ran well in the dark, it kept the feisty filly from acting up too much. that meant it would be easier on kirsten to control the little beast. besides, she kind of wanted some time to herself this morning. she nodded to the grooms that had started to arrive to feed and prepare the horses for their morning ride.
she skipped ahead of all the horses and went straight to midtee's stall. "could you tack her up for me please? i'm taking her out in five minutes." the stable hand nodded quickly and looked down. "thanks." although kirsten was a fair boss and paid decently a lot of the staff was pretty intimated by the small woman. she has been known to fire people on the spot, that might make her a bit of a tyrant but the staff respected their boss and knew their place.
kirsten took the next couple of minutes to go down the stalls and give each horse a good morning pat (well, all except knight rousseau). she loved her horses and couldn't wait to see their potential flourish this year under her direct training. she would only be riding midtee this year so that she could focus more on good training and not be so stressed. she might also be riding ladam rose next year but she was still uncertain.
as she made her way back towards midnight thriller's stall she could hear the young filly shriek. figures... this filly was probably going to be in a fussy mood this morning and be difficult to handle. of course. why do i keep breeding night stalker babies? she grinned. she knew the answer to that one. she loved her night stalker babies, even though they were nearly all impossible to handle.
midtee threw back her head when she saw her owner approach and rolled her eyes back. kirsten shook her head. "you silly girl. you love to give everyone trouble don't you?" the horse's handler muttered something under her breath and quickly passed the reins over to kirsten. the pure black filly huffed and puffed out her chest. she found nothing wrong with her behaviour (of course).
kirsten led midtee out of the barn and down to the track. she was still getting used to the set up here at the wire so she found herself looking around at the sights. her horse followed suit. it was nearly pitch black outside. the only lights were the lights around the track. the air was calm. the horse was not.
midtee threw up her head at the sight of the dark and lonely track. she had raced once on this track and she had come in a good second place. kirsten had a feeling that midtee liked this track. she was thankful that the triple tiara would be running on the wire this year. they were going to train long and hard for this prestigious cup. ars would be proud of their rising champion.
she mounted the tall filly and the silhouette of the two stubborn and lively beings became one. kirsten breathed in the cool crisp air and urged the filly into a light gallop. midtee obeyed without a fight, for she was awed by the morning chills on the silent track. there was no one to disturb them.
