Livin' The Jazz had kicked his trailer aching to leave as if he didn't get enough exercise. Chris shook his head latching the lead rope onto his halter before opening the doors and walking the black stallion from the box, "Come on now Jax I promised you a run and you will get one." Chris Stevens was one of Nature's Blues well known jockeys and he would finish off Livin' the Jazz to his retirement next season. Joining him and the stallion would be Terri Lane on the back of a chestnut mare named Secret's Surprise, a undercard turf mare also joining them was Meredith Hently on grey stallion Get Loose. All three horses favored the turf and it would be a matter of time before they all made it to Grade One.
Jax was a strong closer it took him awhile to find his stride he would match with Secret's Surprise in this workout as she too was a closer. Otis would head to the middle of the pack depending on how many horses were within that pack. They all moved gracefully well within each other with Get Loose leading the way for them. Jax remained on the outside pushing Ursa towards the rail with intentions to beat her but the chestnut mare nipped and pushed herself out passed the black stallion. Ursa had been off the tracks for awhile and would need steady ease back into her races as was Otis who slowed his pace to just gently be a hind ahead of the two.
Otis was a hard case of back and forth, doing great one race and then fall the next, the stallion was quite unpredictable and Meredith would break him of this streak hopefully soon. The back stretch came around nicely when all of a sudden Jax found an amazing stride and pushed himself away from the mare and just about the lead from Otis. The Jazzman son would not dare stand down from his place and would fight for the lead everytime. The stallion was a force to be reckoned with and showing he meant business was a known fact. It was the final turn before Jax took off like a train pulling away from the two behind him not even showing the care of turf he threw behind him. Secret's Surprise soon took the command of her jockey and fled from her place to slowly pace passed the grey stallion with assurance of desperation, this mare had been idle for too long and she would not stand it.
The homestretch came easy when all three horses gave it their own with Jax already gone passed the wire by two lengths and Ursa beating Otis by a head was something body shaking. Jax surely gloated of his win with his head raised and the pounding of his hooves the jockeys returned the horses back to their stalls to prepare for the races that would soon be theirs for the taking.
